Prairie Beauty

I don't know about you, but for me summer is a time when I can be a little bit more devil-may-care about my skin care because the warmer weather and the higher humidity tends to be great for my skin type. However, as the seasons change and we find the temperatures dropping and the weather getting a little bit more unpredictable, I know that my skin tends to go through a bit of a period of chaos, especially the skin on my body that has been a little bit neglected and left to its own devices all summer. I like to think I'm pretty good at caring for the skin everywhere other than my face than I used to be, but I started noticing that I use both lotion and cream in different ways at different times, so I thought now was a good time to get into the difference between lotion and cream and how to choose the right product for your needs.

Hey guys! I really wanted to get this post out quickly so that if you're interested in these products, you can still get your hands on them before they disappear. Seriously, I feel like this summer has really been steeped in products that contain either banana or watermelon and I am very much here for it, so there was no way that I was going to miss out on trying these out. The Body Shop Banana hair care products have been a long time favorite of a lot of people, so it makes perfect sense that they would have shifted into banana body care as well. Personally, I think they're basically insane for making their Summer 2019 Wonderfully Wonky Banana products limited edition, but they are and so... HURRY!

But first, keep reading to check out my thoughts on them... and then go get them before they're gone!

I know scents are subjective, but for my personal taste there is no better season for smells than fall. Sure, sometimes they go a little too far with the caramel sweetness, but I don't care because so often they're paired with something a little spicy or nutty or just... rich. I can get down with floral scents in the spring and fresher scents in the summer, but I'm always excited to get to when smells smell the best, and for me that's definitely fall. Have I gone on long enough? For Fall 2018, Avon has released some new body care products with classic fall scents, including Pumpkin Soufflé, as well as some gorgeous candles.

Hey guys! If you've read this blog for a while, you might already know that NIVEA is a brand that I always tend to come back to for hydration products for my hands and body. I've always had a soft spot for the brand - and that familiar scent - and I'm always up to try out their new products because I've had such success with their more classic ones. Recently the NIVEA Care Intensive Nourishment Non-Greasy Cream* has been living on my nightstand, a go to for before bed hydration, I'm excited to tell you guys about it!

Recently, I got the chance to try out a pretty cool selection of natural and organic products that were new to me - look for more reviews and content about those products to come - and some of the most exciting products in the selection for me were a couple of hydrating products. It was perfect timing, I must say, for me to start testing them out as I actually managed to get really sick in a way that meant I was dehydrated and needed a little help on he surface while I basically mainlined water for the inside, so I found myself reaching for The Green Beaver Boreal Lip Balm* and The Green Beaver Boreal Body Lotion* quite frequently during the course of that.

Even though I don't do it often enough, I always find that taking some time to pamper myself in a kind of at home spa day is an act of self care that's really good for the balance of my mind. Because I have anxiety disorder, self care is one of those things that can sometimes be difficult, but is also really important so I've been trying to be more mindful of doing things that aren't quite necessity but ultimately make me feel better. Recently, I've been using some Avon Planet Spa Heavenly Hydration Body Products* as apart of my pamper routine and I'm really excited to review them for you guys!

Hey guys! Recently I got the chance to try out the Weleda Mighty Essentials Travel Set*, which includes 5 of their must have products. Even though this set isn't available anymore, I wanted to give you guys my first impressions on the products included in it because I think there's some winners in the bunch that a lot of people would really enjoy - including a ride or die, long time favorite product of mine that I recommend constantly.

When it comes to body care, I have to admit that the thing I tend to lean on most is how products smell. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, but there really is something about filling the shower with a scent that you enjoy and making it a sensory experience rather than a simply necessary task for hygiene. Recently, I was really excited to get to try out the Avon Senses Body Care Lemon Blossom & Basil* products. Lemon is by far one of my favorite scents because it always smells clean and fresh, and I really tend to enjoy the addition of herbs in fruity or floral scents.

More and more, I've been realizing how much better I feel when I'm hydrated head to toe. I've always been pretty good about keeping my face hydrated, but when it came to my body I would usually wait until I got uncomfortably dry before doing anything. I've definitely learned my lesson on that point and have become a lot more consistent in taking care of the skin on my body as well as my face. Recently, I've been trying out the Karen Dermo Cosmetic Phytoplankton Moisturizing Lotion*, which can be used for face, hands, and body.

Even though body lotion is extra important for me in the winter, I think that as spring approaches I feel like it's just as important because I want to prep the skin on my body for being shown off a little bit more than heavy sweaters and boots allow. For this reason, I've been trying out a lot of different body lotions lately to see what's really going to work for me in the summer months. I like something a little lighter during these months that will give me hydration and keep my skin looking and feeling smooth but doesn't feel heavy or overwhelming on the skin. Recently, I've been testing out two of the ACURE Organics Body Lotions and because I've been loving so many ACURE products over the past year I had pretty high expectations.

When it comes to body care, I really only have a short list of needs. First, it has to smell good. If there's a really great body product that I hate the smell of, I'll just never use it. So, I'm the girl in the body wash aisle taking deep whiffs of everything and I'm not ashamed. The second is that it needs to keep me hydrated. I admit I'm a little bit devil may care when it comes to body lotion. I recognize the necessity of it, especially since my skin tends to skew dry, but I am absolute crap about remembering to apply it after every bath or shower and I pretty much never apply it on the days when I don't. So I can't wash my body with soap. It's just not a thing that can happen. Anyway, now that I've gotten my personal needs out of the way, I recently got the opportunity to try some Goat's Milk Body Products from Caprina* and now that I've tried them all out I'm excited to review them for you!

Anyone else tragically bad at remembering to apply body lotion? I admit it, I'm absolutely terrible at it. Lately, though, for various reasons including but not limited to winter-related dry skin, I've been making a concentrated effort to be a little more diligent in my body lotion routine. A perfect time to test out the Vichy Ideal Body Aqua Sorbet*, am I right? I've been using this lotion consistently for a few weeks now and I'm ready to let you guys know my thoughts!

So... What are "Intimate Cosmetics", you ask? I had the same question when I was considering trying out these products for review. The answer, that these are products that "work to balance a woman's sensuality and sexuality", didn't necessarily tell me as much as I wanted to know... So here's my definition, which I thought of after getting out of the shower having used one of these products. I feel like these products work in very much the same way some sexy lingerie can. Lingerie isn't always meant for someone else, in fact I'd say that for me it's more often about how I feel about me than how someone else feels about me, but it can be used to entice someone and draw them in. There's something empowering about feeling sexy, even outside of a sexual context, and I think all women like to feel that kind of empowering sexiness. Hence, Intimate Cosmetics.

So without further adieu... Keep reading to take a look at each of the products - and be warned that you might find the packaging NSFW.

I have to admit... I've been a little bit obsessed with NIVEA this past month. Considering it's been such a dry month here on the prairies, it's not surprising that I would default to the one brand that I feel like I can always count on to really hit my skin with next level moisture. NIVEA is one of those iconic brands that has been around forever. I remember that navy blue tub of cream from when I was a kid, though I don't think I could tell you who exactly used it. Anyway, I stalked this product when I heard that it was coming out, dying to get my hands on it after seeing some really good reviews from various bloggers who had received press samples. I managed to find one lonely bottle in Walmart, discarded in an aisle where it didn't belong, and it went directly into my cart. I've been using this in every shower for nearly the last month and I am definitely ready to give my review.

I am terrible at consistently applying body lotion, I admit it. I tend to hate applying lotion to wet skin after the shower, which is exactly when I need it, and I oftentimes will just skip it, get dressed, and go about my business. As such, my skin feels like it has been a little bit neglected over the years, especially when winter rolls around and the dry air and cold temps do a number on my skin. I feel like I've been talking ad nauseum about winter skin recently, but us Canadian girls know that the struggle is real. Winter rolls around and it's time to up your water intake and be a little more diligent about applying moisture to the skin. I have to tell you, this lotion makes that diligence a lot easier for me to stomach and my skin is loving me at the moment because of it.

I spoiled it already, but keep reading for my deep thoughts about this lotion...

Even though I talked about this body lotion in my November favorites, I decided that it needed its own post and that the body oil needed to be included as well. Anyone who reads this blog with any kind of frequency or knows me at all knows that I'm pretty much obsessed with almond scented body products (and if I could find something to make my hair smell like this without weighing it down and gluing in to my head, I'd be on it.) I actually picked up this body oil at Winners first, since my Aura Cacia Sweet Almond Oil was running low, and was instantly obsessed with it, so I obviously had to grab the lotion as well. These products hail from Italy and I haven't found a convenient way to order them online yet - and trust me, I've tried - but I've seen more of them at Winners since so it's worth a look.

Even though I spoiled it by telling you how obsessed I am with both of these products, keep reading for more of my thoughts...
