Skin care has been a bit of an obsession with me for the past few years, but in 2019 it really did take over my beauty focus and I've been really figuring out what works for my skin and I think I have an amazing collection of products that I can reach for depending on my skin's needs. When I first started thinking about my 2019 Skin Care Favorites, I figured the list would be pretty short... and then all the different categories really became apparent to me and gave me a real sense of how much thought really goes into my skin care.

Oh man, guys, putting together this year's Makeup Favorites this year was probably the easiest it's ever been, but I procrastinated HARD on sitting down and actually taking the photos of the products. Admittedly, when it comes to makeup I've been pretty committed this year and the products that I love I really, really love and reach for constantly. I think I've managed to transition away from wanting to try all of the things and constantly reaching for the new new and instead when I find favorites I tend to stick with them. I also didn't choose favorites from categories where I just don't have a favorite product, because I didn't want to be disingenuous and just choose a product to have something to mention. 

SO, without further ado, let's get into my favorite makeup products of 2019!

Hey guys! For 2019, I really am trying to actually sit down and hash out my favorites, but I really don't think I'm going to do it every month because I feel like it becomes more about just choosing things I like rather than actually really hammering down on my favorites. That being said, I feel like every couple of months there will inevitably be products that I've really, really fallen in love with and I definitely want to share them with you guys.

Admittedly, a huge part of that is because this month had some outstanding favorites for me and I really, really wanted to share them with you guys. For the most part, this has been new to me products, but there are a couple of old favorites in here as well. Hey guys! It's that time again - yearly favorites! You may have noticed that I didn't actually do Monthly Favorites posts in 2018, which was really because I was finding it difficult to keep choosing a selection of favorites every month that would be different from the last. I'd love it if you'd let me know if you'd like me to go back to Monthly Favorites, because I'd be happy to do it, I think I just might alter the way that I do it a little bit. Anyway, since I didn't have those monthly posts to reference, I really had to look back through the blog, through my social media and just through my memory to really figure out what the products were that shone brightest in the past year, and every single product on this list is absolutely one that I would recommend.

Over the weekend, I decided it was about time to wash my brushes, but I was lacking energy and motivation so I decided to only wash the brushes that I reach for most frequently and it occurred to me that it might be fun to put together a post sharing with you guys the brushes that I reach for on a daily basis to put together most of my every day makeup looks. Basically, if I could only choose 10 makeup applicators and had to get rid of the rest of my ridiculous brush collection, these are almost certainly the 10 that I would choose.

While January felt like the longest month ever, I feel like February passed in a bit of a blink, so I'm admittedly a little late on putting together my favorites this month, whoops! It was also a month that was pretty busy for me and I actually pretty consistently found myself reaching for a very small number of products to get the job done so this favorites post isn't quite so packed with products. Still, you can count on the fact that everything mentioned here is something that I really, really love.

I feel like every blogger puts together their monthly favorites a little bit differently. For me, it's a pretty straightforward process. I don't keep notes or make a list of everything I wear over the course of the month or anything like that. When it comes time to put together the post, I sit down at my vanity and I just think for a while about what I reached for a lot over the course of the month and I play with the products and I compare them to other products. I also don't only include new or new-to-me products. I want to give a clear representation of what stands out in my collection, whether it's new or something I've owned for years, because I think that gives you insight into what really endures. Sometimes I thinkwe lean too heavily on what's new and hot. Anyway, I'm not sure why I felt inclined to share that with you guys this month, but I figured I'd just give a little bit of insight into how this really works for me.

I spend a LOT of time talking about my favorite beauty products on this blog, but I spend significantly less time talking about my favorite things in other categories. When I sat down and started thing about what to list in my favorite non-beauty related stuff of the year, I ultimately decided to keep it light with mostly easy going favorite things. That said, the last thing in this list is probably my favorite thing about 2017 and I hope you'll bear with me as I go into a little bit of detail on how I feel about it, as it's something I've been wanting to write for a while. Or, if you're interested in keeping it light, you can just stop at the fun pop culture and snacks stuff!

After years of neglecting and ignoring my nails, 2017 was the year that I finally started getting back into doing my nails and dipping my toes into the nail art scene. Now, I still consider myself a novice, but I've really been trying things out and having a really good time doing it, and it 2018 I do hope to include more and more nail art and polish related content here on the blog. But for now... Let's talk about the stuff I've been loving over the past year to both take care of my hands and to play with nail artistry.

If you read this blog with any kind of regularity, you'll know that I'm a bit of a skin care nerd and I've been super interested in the past few years in learning as much as I can about how skin care really works. I also believe pretty strongly that all of the science in the world won't actually tell you how a product will react with any individual's skin, so it's important to really try products and give them a solid test while also considering scientific evidence and the ingredients that work best for you. Anyway, because I try and really enjoy so much skin care combined with the fact that I've found that what works best with my skin is to layer and change up the products in my routine based on how my skin is behaving, really figuring out what my favorites were was a difficult task for me. That said, I definitely stand behind all of these products as ones that work for me, that I consistently reach for, and that I have every intention of continuing to use into 2018.

Ahhh lip products! When I sat down to really hash out what my favorite lip products of 2017 were, it was a bit of a process. Did I want to choose my most reached for, the formulas that impressed me most, or just go with my gut? Ultimately, I kind of did a mixture of all three of those things. My lip collection is pretty big and there are a lot of products that I really love. Ultimately, though, once I had assembled my favorites there was no question that these five products were the ones that really stood out for me the most in the past year. They were constantly reached for and loved products that I have little complaint about.

So without further adieu, let's get to the products!

For me, lashes and brows really help to frame the face and give a perfected look even if I'm doing really natural makeup for the day, so I'm constantly looking for products that are going to take care of those two areas without too much fuss but with the results that I need. I mean, really, who doesn't want beautiful brows and lashes? For me, the lashes are all about volume and the brows are all about precision and a little bit of fullness. There can definitely be some preference involved when it comes to these types of products, so I always like to make my personal tastes clear when I talk about them.

Now, let's get to the favorites, shall we?

When I sat down at my vanity with my notebook to suss out my favorites of the year, eyeshadows were probably the most difficult for me because there were SO MANY contenders. I feel like eyeshadow formulas have come really far in the past 5 years or so and what I love now is leaps and bounds ahead of what I was loving back when I started this blog. When choosing these five, I definitely considered formulas that were above and beyond, but also what I'm personally most likely to reach for in my collection when I'm not testing something out for review and these are definitely the products that I tend to come back to - and one that is new but just... an absolute standout from this past year.

You might be surprised (or maybe not) to learn that the types of products that I tend to have the most of in my collection are actually cheek products. I'm actually a bit of a fiend when it comes to blush, especially in the formulas that I love, and I absolutely love trying out and finding new amazing bronzers and highlighters. That said, this year there have been some SERIOUS standouts in this category and when I sat down to choose my favorites they were all really clear for me. Considering the size of my collection, I feel like the fact that choosing a Top 5 was this easy is a testament to how much I love these products!

Ahhhhh! I feel like it's customary to open a yearly favorites post with some exposition on how I can't believe that the year has passed already - but as true as that is on its face, I feel like 2017 was a year that was really, really full and passed quickly, but... not as much as some others. Anyway! It was a unique year for makeup for me in that I found myself less excited about new releases than I've been in the past and I did a lot of rediscovery of oldies but goodies and also worshipped my solid favorites quite a bit. I decided to do this year in a Top 5 format, choosing only what I really solidly loved this year and really being hard on my collection to choose my favorites.

Because it seemed like the obvious place to start, I decided to open with my favorite complexion products, so keep reading to see what made the cut!

When I sat down to put together my November Favorites, I found that I was really struggling to actually choose a selection of favorites from last month. In fact, I almost just skipped Favorites all together. But then I decided that I might as well just make a post of Current Favorites that features all of the stuff I'm currently obsessed with. I didn't keep this just to beauty and I'll admit that it's a little bit makeup light at the moment, but I'm pretty in love with everything in this post. My September Favorites are a little bit late this month and I'll admit that's because I didn't want to take pictures of them. I'm finding that my motivation seems to be going down further the earlier the sun sets lately, so I'm hoping that the cooler months will perhaps perk me up a little bit. I've also been a little bit slack on my makeup recently, lacking in creativity overall. Or maybe just shifting my creativity to my nail art - which I've been going hard with. Anyway, my favorites for September were pretty damn clear to me as soon as I thought about it, and there are some REALLY good ones.
