WHAT'S IN MY TRAVEL BAG

by - July 24, 2015

Since I've been traveling and also pretty lazy just in general the last couple of weeks, I figured that in place of doing What I Wore This Week, I would show you what I packed in my travel bag for my week away. For me, it's pretty hard to pare down to just the basics and I tend to pack way too much of everything whenever I head out of town - but I tried really hard this time to choose a small selection of basics to get me through the trip. This post will just contain the makeup that I took with me, but I also raided my collection of deluxe samples from various subscription services for skin, hair, and body care so check back at my monthly empties at the end of this month to see what I took with me and how I felt about it.

So, without further adieu, check out my travel makeup bag selections!
FACE

Bourjois Health Mix Serum Foundation in 52 Vanilla
This is actually fairly new to my collection, but I loved it the first few times I wore it so into my bag it went. Ultimately, I wished I had taken a second option that was a little more matte, but it got the job done.
Maybelline FIT Me Concealer in 115
This is an old standard for me and it took very little thought to decide that this was the concealer I would be taking with me. It always gets the job done.
L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder in 200 Natural Beige
As you can see by the fact that I've hit pan on this powder, I really like it - especially in the summer. I like to keep it to a light dusting, because I feel like that's all it takes to keep everything looking matte and flawless. I chose this over the Rimmel Stay Matte powder because of the packaging.
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
I love this powder for under my eyes and I had this little sample size in my drawer and figured it was perfect to toss in my bag for this trip. I chose this over the tiny Make Up For Ever HD powder sample I had because this one doesn't flash back in photos.

it Costmetics Vitality Face Disc (Review)
This is the perfect compact for travel because it has a huge bronzer as well as generous sizes of blush and highlight. Initially, I was only going to bring this because I figured it would be enough... but my inner makeup junkie piped up and decided I needed more options.
Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette in Sugar & Spice (Review)
This is really perfect for traveling because it has 6 matte blushes and 2 shimmers that pretty much cover just about any look I could possibly wear during this trip. Also, it's quite slim and sleek so it won't take up all that much room in my bag considering the number of options it gives me.
Freedom Makeup London Pro Contour Kit (Review)
I've been using this pretty much constantly lately and I couldn't resist having it in my bag with me on this trip. Also, it's so tiny that it's perfect for travel and gave me a matte highlight option, which I love.

EYES

I ♥ Makeup Death By Chocolate Palette (Review)
Choosing a large palette from my collection was a bit more difficult than you might think, but I went with this one because it has the rosy tones that I've been loving lately as well as some good, standard neutrals and I think it pretty much checks all the boxes I could need. Also, I need to reach for it more.
tarte Tartelette Palette
This is a staple for me and there was no question about whether or not I was going to bring it. I pretty much use this every day, whether it be alone or as a supplement to other palettes. It had to come with me.

Pupa Luminys Baked Eyeshadow in 200
This is a great highlighting shadow and I like that I can use it damp to get a little more pop. Also, if I want a really insanely glowy highlight at the top of my cheekbones, a light dusting of this does the trick. I love a good multipurpose product for travel!
AVON Extra Lasting Eyeshadow Pencil in Amethyst
This is a long time favorite of mine and one that I find myself reaching for pretty consistently to use as a base. It's a pale taupey purple shade that just works for both day and evening and it's absolutely budge proof. I brought this because it makes everything easy and it's definitely one of the products that got the most use and help my makeup together in insane city heat and humidity.
MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly
This is another favorite base for me because it sticks like glue on my lids and can work under pretty much any eye look that I want to try. This was another product that I had no question about bringing.
L'Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions Waterproof Mascara in Blackest Black
If you've read this blog for any period of time, you know this is my favorite mascara at the drugstore and I'm pretty much devastated that it's being discontinued. Because this trip was going to absolutely include some crying as I visit an ill relative, this was another no brainer. Also, I need all the backups ever....
Almay Intense i-Color Liquid Eyeliner in Brown Topaz
I wanted to bring a liquid liner for nights out, but I wanted to keep my holiday looks pretty soft so I went with this brown one that I absolutely love. I didn't end up using it, but I had it on hand just in case.
Freedom Makeup London Mono Eyeshadow in Gilded 220
I brought this very specifically because I love it over the AVON pencil and when I pair them together I get a pretty much bulletproof 1 minute eye look. I literally wore this combo for 14 hours yesterday and it still looked pretty much flawless as I was about to wash it off. Who can resist that for a vacation?
BROWS

L'Oreal Brow Stylist Plumper in Medium to Dark
I've really been loving this brow gel lately because it gives some good definition and keeps my brows in place absolutely all day, so it was definitely my first choice from my too large collection of brow gels.
NYX Micro Brow Pencil in Taupe & Ash Brown
Did you really take two brow pencils, you ask? Why yes, yes I did. These two paired together are my current brow perfecting dream team and they both get used equally as often, so how could I choose just one?
LIPS

Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick in Shade 02
This is another fairly new purchase for me, but I'm already a little obsessed. This mauve nude shade is right up my alley and this formula is gorgeous.
Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Lipstick in Shade 42
I literally bought this the night before I left and I couldn't resist throwing it in my bag. Where the Bourjois lipstick is a mauve toned nude, this is a true pale nude with a hint of peach. I love the Kate Moss lipsticks and I wore this one a lot on my trip.
Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm with Vitamin E & Peppermint
This kind lives in my purse so it's the obvious choice to travel with me. I don't actually apply this so much throughout the day, but more as a part of my morning and evening skincare routine and it keeps my lips plump, soft, and hydrated. Also... mmm, minty!
BITE Beauty Luminous Créme Lipstick Duo in Violet/Palomino (not pictured)
I decided I needed to take something that isn't nude in case of bright lipstick related emergency... Which, of course, means just in case I decided I wanted to wear something really vibrant. Didn't happen, but I'm still glad I had it.

So there you have it, all of the things that tided me over on my short trip. In all honesty, I didn't find myself wearing a lot of makeup while I was gone, but I was glad I brought with me what I did. Keep an eye out for my monthly favorites to see where the winners lie!
