REVIEW: Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Marvelous Mauve
I don't know about you guys, but when I'm on the hunt for a specific type of makeup product, I'm always looking for "the perfect ______". For some time now, I've been looking for the perfect mauve liquid lipstick. Obviously liquid to matte lipsticks have been one of the most recent crazes as far as makeup trends are concerned, and I've found that it's really difficult for me to find a formula that I love in a shade that suits me perfectly. It was after seeing reviews and swatches online of the Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in Marvelous Mauve that I decided to head down and pick it up to give it a try. I was pretty optimistic about it after hearing so many good things, but that doesn't always guarantee that I'm going to love the product.
Keep reading to find out how this performed for me and to see swatches!
From Sephora:
What it is:
A lip stain that provides beautiful, long-lasting color.
What it does:
This high-coverage lip product features avocado oil for a texture that transforms as you wear it: when applied, the initial cream texture becomes a silky, lightweight stain. Lips achieve stunning color and feel soft and comfortable.
What else you need to know:
Available in an array of rich shades, including both matte and satin finishes, with intense color that stays put.
This packaging is pretty standard, I have to say. it's your typical plastic tube and your classic doe foot applicator, but I find that I really like the simplicity of it. It also feels like the cap screws on quite firmly and with a slight snap, so you don't have to worry about it leaking or drying out.
This product has a slightly sweet smell that I find reminds me a little of vanilla candies. It's not necessarily a pure sweet smell, as there is a little bit of a painty note to it (Side Note: Anyone else finding that smell is almost always present in liquid to matte lipsticks? Must be one of the necessary ingredients) but it isn't overwhelming. I don't find that the scent lingers on the lips at all once the product has set, so I can't imagine anyone finding the smell to be a problem.
I'm just gonna say it. The formula of this product is FANTASTIC! It applies really easily and smoothly without having to work too hard with it. I find that it sets completely within about a minute to a fully matte finish. The wear time is PHENOMENAL. Seriously, I rub my lips together a lot, so finding long wearing lipsticks that actually stick around on me can be really hard, but from the first time I wore this it was in for the long haul. Even after drinking lattes and even light snacking, this stays in place without budging. I will say that when I have a full meal, it does lose colour along the inner rim of my lips, so I do have to reapply, but that's definitely not something that I'm too upset about.
My absolute favorite thing about this formula is how comfortable it is. It's super lightweight to the point that it really does feel like you have nothing on your lips. It doesn't get overly dry or tight feeling on your lips and it also isn't at all sticky. Seriously, I have no complaints whatsoever about this formula.
I do always recommend using a lip liner when you're using a full pigment
product on a doe foot, because it just gives a much crisper line to the
lips. I've been using this with my favorite lip liner from the
drugstore, the Essence Lip Liner in Satin Mauve, and it's a great combination.
I think this shade would be beautiful on a lot of different people. I've seen swatches on different skintones and it's one of those shades that looks really different, but fairly universally flattering on everyone I've seen it on. It's incredibly wearable on me and I've found myself reaching for it several times a week since I picked it up.
Honestly, I can't recommend this enough and I can't wait to get my hands on more shades in this absolutely fantastic formula.
