EMPTIES: October 2015

by - November 03, 2015

October was really a month where I feel like I was trying out a lot of new things in my beauty routine... which means that there really wasn't a lot of room for finishing up products. That said, I did go through a few things this month and some of them are some of my absolute favorites and things that I have either already repurchased or have every intention of repurchasing in the near future. So basically it's a lighter month on empties than the past few have been... but it's a pretty good raft of empties as well. Makes sense? Anyway, if you're interested in seeing what I managed to use up (and finally throw out) this month, keep reading!

COLAB Sheer Invisible Dry Shampoo in LONDON
FAVORITE. Seriously. I've already repurchased this and will probably keep on repurchasing it over and over and over for years to come. This is a great dry shampoo particularly for those of us with darker hair, because there really is no white cast, but it's also just overall effective. I seriously couldn't ask for more. If you haven't tried this, you absolutely need to!

Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray
To be perfectly honest, about half way through this bottle I gave this to my boyfriend because he wanted a little bit of light hold and texture as his hair gets a little longer. That said, when my hair was longer and I was more consistently going for beachy waves, this was a really great spray for that. Also, it smells like summery goodness.

Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Fresh Complexion Foundation in 115
This is pretty much my favorite foundation in the drugstore, I have to say. I feel like it just looks really good and healthy on my skin, giving good coverage without being too heavy. I've actually already repurchased this (my third tube of it) and will likely always have this on hand because it just works really, really well for my skin. Lately, I've been mixing it with a pump of the Bourgois Healthy Mix Serum foundation and it looks absolutely gorgeous.

L'Oreal Visible Lift Serum Absolute Foundation
I used to really love this foundation, but the last few times I used it I found that it just looked really heavy and makeupy on my skin. It might just be that the bottle has been around too long and the consistency isn't what it used to be, but I'm still probably not going to repurchase this because I definitely have things I like more. Still, it used to be a really nice foundation.

CND Air Dry Fast Set Top Coat
LOVE. I can't find this anywhere locally, so I suspect I'm going to have to do some online searching so I can get my hands on another bottle. This is everything I want Seche Vite to be, if I'm being honest. It's a really strong, smooth top coat that dries in no time and doesn't shrink on my nails. Seriously, it might be my favorite ever. Will definitely repurchase.

JULEP Freedom Polymer Top Coat
This is a pretty good top coat as well, though I do find that it does shrink a little bit and give the appearance of tip wear. I don't think I'll repurchase it, just because it's a little spendy considering the quantity and it's just not my favorite, but I did enjoy it while I had it.

NYX Micro Brow Pencil in Taupe
This is another major love for me. I reviewed this over the summer and continued to love it until it ran out. However, I don't think this is the right shade for me and have since bought Ash Brown, which I think fits my colouring a lot better. I will keep repurchasing that one though, for sure - If it's ever in stock at London Drugs when I go there!

TOCCA Nourishing Body Scrub in Green Tea & Lemon
This came in a recent Birchbox and I liked the smell of it so much that I tossed it directly into the shower (which is really what I should be doing with all of the bath products that I get in subscription boxes) to use right away. It was a nice scrub that left my skin feeling smooth and hydrated and I absolutely loved the smell, but I wouldn't repurchase just because I don't feel the product is worth the price.

Bory White Snow Toner
This came in a Memebox nearly a year ago and it took me forever to use. Unfortunately, I didn't really see any results with this toner and I definitely wouldn't try to track it down to use it again - especially since I'm so obsessed with my current toning routine and have been seeing such awesome results from it.

JOE Fresh Premium Cotton Pads
So here's a story... I was in Superstore a few weeks ago and they were clearing these out for $0.24 so I bought a few of them and I really wish I would have bought about a dozen because these ones are actually really good and I'm enjoying the hell out of them. They don't rip or fall apart when you're using them, which I find most cheap cotton pads do, and they actually feel really nice against the skin. ... I wonder if they have any left.

Rexall Makeup Remover & Cleansing Towelettes
I bought these on a whim at the check out one day at Rexall just to see how they were and I have to say they're not my favorite. The thing with me is that there's a smell that a lot of cleansing wipes have that I just really don't like. It smells like babies and I just don't love it. Anyway, these had that scent, so I mostly just used them for wiping off makeup swatches.

E.G.T. Essence Gel Eyefill Patch
I really, really like these eye patches for mornings when I'm feeling tired and puffy, because I throw them on for 10 minutes and my eye area looks a lot more awake and less... you know, bad. I bought a 5 pack of these, so I'm continuing to use them on rough morning.

THEFACESHOP Real Natural Face Mask in Acai Berry
This mask really wasn't memorable for me. I mean, literally, I don't actually remember using it (which makes me think I need to take more notes) so I suspect it was just a nice sheet mask that didn't really do much good or bad. I don't mind those types of sheet masks, because I find the act of wearing it relaxing in itself, but I probably won't repurchase this one.

Ferderma Egyptian Mask Pack
This was another Memebox inclusion that I had been keeping tucked away preciously until I finally decided I should just use it already. And it was good. Really good. I actually saw and felt improvement in my skin after wearing this. I would definitely pick more of these up if they didn't require too much work.

Garnier Intensive Treatment Skin Renew Dark Spot Tissue Mask
This one surprised the hell out of me - because it was also really, really good. Again, I noticed a difference in the look and feel of my skin after trying it and I'm going to be on the look out for more of these.

THEFACESHOP Real Nature Face Mask in Olive
I really liked this one. I didn't see a huge difference in my skin after using it, but my skin did feel and look really nice the next day. I do actually really love some of the masks from THEFACESHOP, so the next time I buy I would probably pick up another one of these.

Freeman Blue Agave Hydrating Facial Paper Mask
NO! Bad bad bad. My skin really, really hated this mask. While I wore it, it just felt... almost pins and needles-y, and not in a good way. After I wore it, the skin on my face and down my neck where I had rubbed some of the essence got hot and turned bright angry red. It was gone by the morning, but I'm still not going to be doing this one ever again.

And there you have it! A few less sheet masks this month,  because I'm trying to reign myself in, but I'm also trying to get through all kinds of other stuff at the moment. I'd say this was a pretty decent month for empties, but I'd like to use up more things next month so let's all cross our fingers!

Thanks for reading!
