FIRST IMPRESSION: Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Nude Lip Set

by - January 26, 2016

So I have to admit...  I literally just picked up the Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Nude Lip set last night. However, since it completely sold out online in no time at all, I figured I should get this up while it's still in stores. I actually had to ask one of the girls at Sephora if they had this and she had to go out to the back and find one for me, which makes me suspect that these aren't actually on store shelves yet - which is GREAT! That means that after this post, you can head right out to Sephora and pick this set up!

I love Sephora Favorites sets. I feel like they're always a great value and packed with really great products. If I could justify it, I would actually probably buy all of them. This particular set comes with 5 nude lip products of various types, shades, and finishes. There are 2 full size items in this set and 3 deluxe samples - at least I think so, but I'll get into that as we look at the products!

Wanna see what's inside? Keep reading!

This set, like 2015's Give Me Some Lip set, is packaged in a pretty adorable lip-shaped box in a nude tone. It's really great packaging and I think it's a great way to display the products, though it's not so nice a box that I actually want to keep it. But really, who knows. This might end up living somewhere on my vanity and holding my lip balms or something.

tarte Tarteist Lip Paint in Namaste
0.1oz Deluxe Sample - Value $12 CAD

I've been dying to try these out, but I assumed (until last night) that they were online exclusive. However, I did see them in store when I went to pick this up. This is a very true neutral nude shade. It's quite light and doesn't pull too warm or too cool. It has a light minty scent and a little bit of a tingly feel on the lips. In trying this out briefly, I've found that it's one of those creamier mattes that does have a flat finish but doesn't seem to really set on the lips. I actually like the feel of it and find it pretty comfortable. It's not my favorite liquid lipstick formula, but it's not bad at all. I think a lot of people will be excited about this one.

NUDESTIX Lip & Cheek Pencil in Whisper
2.49g Full Size - Value $28 CAD

Funny story... I actually have another one of these coming to me in a NUDESTIX set that I ordered recently, so I've really been wanting to try it. Luckily, this is my favorite product in this set so far. It's smooth and creamy to apply, very opaque, and is incredibly comfortable on the lips. It's a very pale nude shade that some people might find too light, but it works on its own for me and also pairs really nicely with a slightly deeper lip liner to pull it out of the dead zone.

Marc Jacobs Poutliner in Primrose
0.01oz Deluxe Size - Value $30 CAD (????)

So, here's the thing... This is supposed to be a sample size and it's in sample packaging, but it's listed as containing the same amount of product as the full size. Weird, right? But we're going to go with it. This is a FANTASTIC lip liner. It applies really smoothly and sets to a seriously stay-put finish. And this is why I rarely buy these really luxury makeup products, to be honest, because I fall in love and they make everything else pale in comparison. This alone makes this box worth it, if you ask me.

Laura Mercier Créme Smooth Lip Color in Milky Way
0.07oz Deluxe Sample - Value $16 CAD

I was really excited for this one, but unfortunately this is my least favorite of the bunch so far. The packaging is gorgeous, the formula is really smooth and creamy to apply and feels absolutely lovely on the lips, but this shade is a little too brown for me to really be flattered by it. I'm going to play around with some lip liners and lip stains and see if I can make this one a little more wearable, because it's a really nice formula and I'd love to make it work.

NARS Lipstick in Dolce Vita
0.12oz Full Size - Value $32 CAD

I have to admit, this lipstick isn't what I was expecting. It's a beautiful rosy nude shade that I think would literally flatter anyone, but it's quite a bit more sheer than I was expecting. That said, I paired this with the NUDESTIX in Whisper and it makes for a pretty heavenly shade and feel on the lips. This is very soft and creamy and feels almost like a balm on the lips to me. I have a feeling I'm going to rely on this heavily in the summer when I want a no-brainer day to day lipstick.

Tarte - Namaste, NUDESTIX Whisper, Marc Jacobs - Primrose, Laura Mercier - Milky Way, NARS Dolce Vita

As you can see from the swatches, while these are all very much in the nude family, they are varied in shade and texture. I do, however, think that they seem to play quite well together and you can create different looks using pairings of different products here. That's really my biggest takeaway, you can mix and match to create different lip looks.

COST: $33 CAD
TOTAL VALUE: $118 CAD

I am overall pretty much thrilled with this set and really feel like I will get a lot of wear out of almost all of these products. I have every intention of playing with them more and seeing what I can do with them, but I think they all work really well for me. These are all really great quality products and I like all of the formulas. I also feel like this is a really phenomenal value for the money, which is always a great thing!

All of that said, I don't think this is a very universal set and there's definitely a lot of people who are going to find that these nudes just don't work for their colouring. That's the thing with nudes, though, I find that it's a very personal thing and some shades will look beautiful on some people and dreadful on others. If you can, I would pop around the store and swatch these shades before you buy this, just to see how you feel about them.

I hope this is the start of a new collection of Sephora Favorites - one that has lip sets in reds, berries, etc. Come on, Sephora, let's do this!
