TAG: The Beauty Lover Tag

by - February 22, 2016

When this tag started popping up in my Bloglovin' feed, I knew that I was going to end up doing it. I love a tag post, especially one that works well in a blog format, because I like answering questions about makeup even more than I like just rambling off with my own thoughts about products.

1. If you could have anyone in the world do your makeup, who would it be?
I'm torn between Lisa Eldridge and Charlotte Tilbury on that one. I think I would actually go with Charlotte Tibury though, because as much as I'd love to have a beautiful, soft Lisa Eldridge look, I want Charlotte Tibury to make me into a bad ass bombshell with the skin of a goddess. Too much to ask?

2. What's your top makeup tip?
BLEND. Blend everything. I feel like the point where I finally felt like I was good at doing makeup was when I really learned how to keep everything blended and seamless. (Now, I'm not saying I'm amazing at makeup, but I think I get by - and it's because of blending.)

3. What one makeup item could you not live without?
Conealer, I think. And if I had to choose only one specific one, it would be MAC Pro Longwear. I feel like that's the one thing I reach for even when I'm wearing no other makeup. And I hope one day to change this answer to mascara, when my skin is unblemished and my undereyes are naturally bright. Pipe dreams!

4. What one skincare item could you not live without?
I've really seen a difference in my skin in the past several months that I've been using acid toners as a regular part of my skincare regiment. I absolutely love the Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant, but I just ran out of it and I haven't bit the bullet and re-ordered it yet, so I've been trying out a couple of other acid options lately and they seem to be working quite well. (To learn more about "acid toners", check out Caroline Hirons blog, since I'm pretty sure she actually coined the term acid toner for those types of products.)

5. What are you worst at when applying makeup?

I feel like I am the world's worst at applying mascara. I ALWAYS get it on my upper lid and end up having to brush it away with Q-Tips once it's dry. ALWAYS. Once upon a time I would have said liquid or gel eyeliner, but I actually feel like practice is making me a lot better at that.

6. What's your biggest pet peeve when it comes to beauty?
Generally, when a trend goes viral and everyone starts doing it really, really badly. Lately, I get so excited when I see women with their contour on point, because the rise of the contour kit has led to a great many dirt smears on cheekbones. And don't even get me started on overdrawn lips....

7. What's your favorite makeup era?
I love 1930s makeup, aside from the eyebrows that I just can't abide. I love the 50s for the glam and the real rise of makeup as something that everyone was using. And, I mean, the fact that we're basically experiencing 1994 2.0 right now is no coincidence. I came of age in the 90s, so I'll always love 90s makeup. DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE. I also love the 80s for the madness, but not in the way where I'd want to wear those looks again.

8. What's your guilty pleasure product?
I don't know that I actually have a guilty pleasure product. Might be the bright, over the top lipsticks that I put on in the privacy of my beauty room but never actually wear out, like the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Backstage Bambi.

9. What your underdog product?
I think the Annabelle TwistUp Lipstick crayons are shamefully underrated. I don't get why more people don't talk about them, because they're one of my favorite lip products in the drugstore. Also, Havana is literally the only lipstick I've actually used up in the last 5 years.

10. What's your favorite makeup product of the year?
So far in 2016, my favorite product is.... This is hard.... Probably the Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Koosh. It's amazing. I have a backup, because it was limited, but if they know what's good for them they would make it permanent because it's SO GOOD.

I tag everyone to answer these questions - and if you do or have done the tag, let me know in the comments because I'd love to read your answers!
