SKIN CARE: MyChelle Dermaceuticals Skin Care Routine*

by - October 19, 2016

Admittedly, I'm a bit of a skin care geek these days. Likely, this is because as I learn more and more when it comes to taking care of my skin, both in theory and in reality what's best for my personal skin type and needs, I see genuine improvement in my skin. Recently, MyChelle Dermaceuticals moved into the Canadian market and I had the opportunity to try out a few of their products - and I have to tell you guys that I am SUPER impressed overall with everything that I tried, which is rare for me as I get more and more aware of exactly what works for my skin and more picky as a result.

To hear more about the products that I tried out, keep reading!

There are a few things that drew me to MyChelle to begin with. One thing is that they balance being a natural skin care brand with using scientifically based formulas. For me, this is an important thing because I like to use evidence based skin care and I think that brands need to have the science to back up the claims. All MyChelle Dermaceutical products are Vegetarian, Cruelty-free, and Free of Phthalates, Parabens, Sulfates, Ureas, Artificial Fragrances and Colors, Petroleum, GMOs, and Gluten, which bears mentioning since there's a lot of people's deal breakers in that list.

MyChelle Refining Sugar Cleanser*
Natural sugar and intoxicating Vanilla-infused cleanser that gently exfoliates surface impurities as it transforms into a creamy, foaming lather—leaving skin radiant and refined. Boosted with anti-aging Matrixyl® Synthe’6™ Peptide, bioactive Plant Extracts, and Hyaluronic Acid to help keep skin hydrated.

Here's a story... I often will smell skin care products as soon as I open their packages and as soon as I smelled this I wanted to basically rub it all over my body. This has a very sweet vanilla smell that reminds me of a delicious smelling lipstick, that kind of vanilla marshmallow smell that is pretty much the best smell of lipstick ever. I know I'm using too many words to talk about the smell, but every time I use this cleanser the scent makes the experience really enjoyable.

Now onto the important stuff. This cleanser does have sugar in it, which adds some exfoliating properties, but it's not so harsh as to be irritating or unsuitable for daily use. I still like to do a more intense scrub about once a week, but this is great for a kind of every day manual exfoliation. One thing that I was really impressed with is that while this is a foaming cleanser it doesn't strip or dry out my skin and I find that my skin feels soft and hydrated after I wash with it. I have to tell you guys, I'm a little bit in love with this cleanser and even after just a few weeks of using it, I'm already getting sad that one day it's going to run out and I'm going to have to get more.

MyChelle Perfect C Serum 17%*
Advanced multi-tasking Vitamin C formula reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles. A high active level of 17% L-Ascorbic Acid, the only effective anti-aging form of Vitamin C, and Buddleja Plant Stem Cells brighten, protect against photo-damage, and combat the visible signs of aging. Dermatologist and Allergy tested.

I've been using this pretty consistently for a few weeks now as my daytime serum and I am definitely liking it. When I first apply it after washing my face, it gives a slight tingle to the skin, but it's not particularly uncomfortable and I kind of like it. I've actually really been enjoying using Vitamin C as a part of my daytime routine recently and I think my skin is really loving it, and this has definitely been a great Vitamin C serum for me. I find that one pump is sufficient for my face and down my neck, so while this is only a 15ml bottle, I think this will go a long way.

One thing that I've really noticed since I've been using this is that it's helping to reduce the appearance of acne scarring that I have left behind and I'm noticing that the aftermath of any small breakouts I have are disappearing much more quickly than they used to. I also see an improvement in the overall brightness of my skin. While my pale skin can look quite dull, I've noticed that my skin looks more healthy recently.

MyChelle Remarkable Retinal Serum*
Advanced serum with exclusive and patented IconicA® (Retinal)—the most potent form of Vitamin A—plus Ceramide 3 and Orange Plant Stem Cells to promote healthy skin renewal, help diminish skin discoloration (dark spots and blemishes), and minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Dermatologist and Allergy tested.

Okay, so, I've never consistently used a retinol before, though I've been wanting to for quite some time because I know that I'm about at that age where I do need to get serious about anti-aging and retinol is one of the most clinically proven ingredients for anti-aging. When I first got this, I used it every night for 3 nights and on the fourth day I found out that I probably should have known better and eased myself in. I did a little bit of research and found that the slight breakout I had and the minimal flaking on my chin were pretty normal when first starting to use a retinol, my skin felt a little bit tender and I decided to switch to every other day until my skin got used to it.  Since doing that, my skin has been reacting really well and I actually haven't seen any side effects at all.

I have to tell you guys that I saw results with this product literally the first day after I used it and I've continued to see consistent improvement in my skin since I started using it. Overall, my skin looks and feels more firm than before and I've seen a difference in the prominence of my smile lines, not a drastic difference but definitely a difference. I don't expect miracles with any skin care product, but this is definitely one product where I've seen visible and consistent results since using it.

MyChelle Supreme Polypeptide Cream*
Multi-peptide and nutrient-rich cream enriched with 4 powerful anti-aging peptides: Matrixyl® Synthe’6™, Syn-Coll®, AC DermaPeptide Revitalizing PF, and Proteasyl® TP Pea Peptide. This luxuriously rich moisturizing cream aids in reducing the appearance of wrinkles and helps to restore tone and texture.

And now we come to what is my favorite product of everything I got the opportunity to try from MyChelle: the Supreme Polypeptide Cream. Admittedly, before I used this, I knew peptides were buzzed about skin care ingredients but I wasn't entirely sure what their purpose was. I'm geeking out on skin care, but there's still a lot of things I need to research. For the purpose of this review, I finally did some research and found that what it's said peptides do is exactly in line with the results that I saw with this cream. Basically, to quote Paula's Choice: "Peptides are fragments of proteins. On their own, peptides are made up of amino acids. When amino acids are combined in certain formations they create specific peptides (and there are hundreds of peptides), and when peptides are formed in a certain way, they make specific proteins." Basically, these proteins are said to help reduce the loss of firmness and the appearance of wrinkles and texture changes.

What I noticed since I've been using this is that it helps my skin to feel and look more plump and leaves it feeling deeply hydrated overall. I was actually kind of amazed at how this really improved the feeling of my skin so that it continues to feel really hydrated even 24 hours after I've applied it. I think this is really the product out of the four that has impressed me the most and the one I'm most likely to continue using religiously, particularly in the winter when my skin gets really parched.

Honestly, you guys, I've been really impressed overall with everything I've tried from MyChelle and I will definitely continue to use products from the line. Personally, at this point, I think my 2 favorite products of the four are the Refining Sugar Cleanser*, which is one of my favorite cleansers I've ever used, and the Supreme Polypeptide Cream*, which I think has really helped to plump and hydrate my skin in a way that is above and beyond any expectations I had. While I do also really enjoy the effects I've seen from the Perfect C Serum* and the Remarkable Retinal Serum* and I think they're well formulated, for me they just weren't as unique as the other two. Still, all four are great products and I definitely recommend them!

Have you tried any products from MyChelle? Any recommendations? I definitely want to try more from this brand!
