EMPTIES: January 2017

by - February 03, 2017

I have to admit that as much as I'm excited at there being actual makeup empties this month - if by empties you mean a few things I've used up and a few things that I'm throwing out because they're old and disgusting or I just hate them - I got a little lazy with this one. As I was taking photos for you guys of my trash, it occurred to me that I was literally trying to make stuff that was about to go into one of the bins out behind my house look pretty and the idea messed with me a little. So I got lazy with it. Still, I didn't want to skip empties this month, so here you have it!

Keep reading to take a look at my lazy,  not pretty beauty trash!

1. Too Faced Born This Way Foundation Sample
I keep trying samples, either foilies or in store samples, of this foundation and while I think it's good it's never completely managed to impress me. I don't think I'll be purchasing this anytime soon.

2. Jessup Flat Top Kabuki Brush
This brush is MANGLED. The ferrule actually got loose quite a while ago, but when I went to wash it recently the ferrule straight up fell off and the bristles started shedding like a big ass dog in springtime. That said, I got a lot of use out of this brush when I had it and I'm still using other brushes from the set consistently.

3. No7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Water
Meh. There's still some product left in here, but I just never really enjoyed this and it's been sitting on my shelf untouched for long enough that I've just decided to get rid of it. There are other cleansing waters that I actually enjoy using and this one just isn't for me. Definitely no repurchase.

4. Maybelline Masterfix Wear Boosting Setting Spray
This setting spray is fine... but I don't think I'll repurchase it because I don't feel like it really does that much for me overall. I actually kept this in my bathroom and used it on my way out the door on mornings where I needed just a little bit of spritz to help bring my makeup together. Like I said, fine but nothing to write home about.

5. Benefit It's Potent Eye Cream
This is another product that was just fine for me. I think, actually, that part of the problem is that it's in a pot and I just don't have patience for products in pots anymore. The product itself was fine, but I just never reached for it because it was annoying. These are ways that product packaging matters, my friends.

6. NUDE Skincare Progenius Treatment Oil
NOT FINE. AMAZING. I've really, really, really loved this oil and I fully admit to holding onto this little bottle as long as possible and really only using it when my skin needed that serious boost. This is definitely one of my favorite facial oils and absolutely always gave me noticable results as soon as I used it.

7. BITE Beauty Cinnamon Plumping Lip Oil
I was never a huge fan of this product - as much as I love the delicious cinnamon hearts scent of it - because I'm not a fan of lip plumping products and how uncomfortable they are. I'm not even sure that BITE still makes this, but even if they do I just have no interest in it. As you can see, it went bad rather than getting used up.

8. Maybelline FIT Me Foundation Stick
I HATE THIS. Honestly, I can pretty much get down with literally everything else in the Maybelline FIT Me line, but this was just so very wrong for me. I feel like it never really buffed into the skin and instead highlighted every texture and dryness imperfection on my skin and then it just disappeared. This isn't even close to used up, it's just time to get rid of it.

9. La Roche Posay Anthelios Mineral Tinted Sunscreen
I've always heard such amazing things about Anthelios that I was excited to try out this little sample and pretty confident that I would love it. I didn't really, unfortunately. I think maybe I will have to try it again, and perhaps the untinted version, because I kind of can't believe that I don't like it. No repurchase yet, but definitely will try again.

10. Urban Decay NAKED Skin Concealer
I got this little sample size because I really wanted to try out the formula, but I found that it dried up on me really, really quickly, which was definitely annoying. The formula was good, though. This particular shade was too dark for under my eyes but worked really well to camoflage blemishes. I might pick up a full size in an undereye shade, but I think I need to do some investigating on whether other people have had this drying up issue.

11. Sonia Kashuk Clear Brow Gel
Isn't clear brow gel disgusting after you've used it for a while? I feel like I only want to use clear brow gels if they come in opaque packaging from here on. Anyway, this never really impressed me. It went on a little too thick and didn't give me the hold I was looking for and I have brow gels that I like infinitely more, so I wouldn't pick this up again.

I feel like this entire post was the opposite of this month's manic favorites post. While there were a couple of products in here that I enjoyed, this was overwhelmingly products that I didn't like or that I just felt lukewarm about. Hopefully next month I'll have some more exciting empties for you guys!

I'd be very curious to know if you guys would rather see quarterly favorites than monthly favorites, so if you've got an opinion on that I'd love to hear it in the comments!

Thanks for reading!
