REVIEW: Arbonne Sheer Glow Highlighter

by - February 08, 2017

Admittedly, I was an Arbonne virgin until recently when I got the opportunity to try some of their products - Look for more reviews to come! - and though I had friends and family members who swore by the brand I didn't actually know too much about them as a whole. I'm SUPER excited that that has now changed, because I've definitely discovered some gems in this line. When looking through their catalogue, I was really impressed with their promise to deliver "pure botanically based ingredients in scientifically tested products" that leave out all of those controversial ingredients like mineral oil, sulfates, phalates, parabens, dyes, and talc. I'm not necessarily personally against having some of those ingredients in my products, but what I like is that Arbonne is about natural products backed by science. That's what really gets me perked up.

If you've seen my January 2017 Beauty Favorites, you will already know that I've fallen a little bit in love with the Arbonne Sheer Glow Highlighter*, but I still wanted to give a full review because it absolutely warrants it. Keep reading for more!

Straight away, I want to tell you guys that I don't actually use this like a traditional highlighter. If you're into a cream highlighter that gives a really subtle, natural looking glow that is almost imperceptible on the skin, I think you could use this that way, but that's not for me. Instead, I like to use this all over as a sort of primer underneath more matte foundations, and I've also worn it alone to give me a luminous look to the skin on a no makeup day. For me, this is definitely the way that this product shines and how I've been reaching for it constantly.

As you can see, this is a fairly thick cream, but it feels weightless with some hydration once you blend it into the skin. One thing that surprised me when I read the ingredients list on this product is that dimethicone is the first ingredient, because I don't find that it has that silky slip to the texture that I usually find with dimethicone based products. It lives up to its "sheer" name by being quite subtle and on the skin, but you can apply it to the cheekbones and tap it out with your fingertips for a soft glow that subtly catches the light. Like I said, this works best for me as a primer to give my skin an all over luminous start that gives my skin a naturally healthy look without adding any greasiness or heaviness underneath my foundation.

The thing that I love about using this in that way is that to me I find that it does make a really good primer, particularly when my skin is leaning dry, because it does have that hydration in the formula (third ingredient is glycerin) and the glow it gives makes my skin look healthier as well. Like products like the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders, this is going to subtly make your skin look really really good rather than punching someone in the face with it - which is exactly why I love both of these products.

Like I said, I have worn this all over my skin on a no-makeup day and I love it for that as well. While giving me that luminosity, it actually helps my skin to look healthier and, I think, makes my flaws less noticable as a result. I would actually really recommend this to someone who doesn't like to wear a lot of foundation but struggles with dullness of complexion, because it really helps in that way. Once it's on the skin, it really does just feel like moisturizer to me, so I would say it's good for someone who doesn't want to add a lot of weight to their faces with primers or cream luminizers.

Because this is a spendy product, I would only recommend it to someone who really feels like what I've described is something for them. This definitely isn't a product for someone who is looking for a really bam! in-your-face highlight. This is more subtle, giving an overall healthy look to the skin, but I am absolutely in love with it and my skin seems to be loving it too. Like I said, though this may not be right for everyone I feel like it's a beautiful, lush product that is well worth the spend for the right customer - Like me!
