HAUL: $1 ShopMissA AOA Studio Haul + First Impressions

by - June 13, 2017

I've done a couple of hauls from Shop Miss A here on the blog before, but I decided to do a dedicated haul of some of their AOA Studio products after seeing some of the products on a Youtube video. I've tried a couple of things from the AOA Studio line before, specifically the face brushes and the blending sponge and I really liked both of them, so I figured there could be some more gems in the line. I mean, at dollarstore prices with products that look like they're stepping it up, how could I resist?

Keep reading to take a look at what I picked up!

AOA Studio Wonder Metal Liquid Lipstick in Unicorn
When I saw that they had metallic liquid lipsticks, I knew I had to try one, and the shade unicorn, which is a bold berry with a strong purple metallic, seemed like a good choice - and it was! This definitely isn't a shade that I'm going to wear all the time, but it's a really pretty one and something unlike anything else I have in my collection. After wearing it once for a few hours, I think the formula is really quite good. It sets, but it doesn't get completely transfer proof. It's worth it to me, though, for the comfort of the formula and the fact that it feels like it retains moisture on the lips.

AOA Studio Wonder Matte Liquid Lipstick in Vintage
I think sometimes the true test of a liquid lipstick formula is the vampier shades, which can easily go patchy. I think this one, which is a deep burgundy shade that can be applied a little bit more sparingly for a deep, dark red look, actually performs pretty well. It does take a little bit of work for full opacity and you have to be mindful of clean lines because it is so deep, but the shade looks stunning when you're finished.

AOA Studio Wonder Matte Liquid Lipstick in Hero
THIS IS MY NEW OBSESSION! I've been looking for a great terracotta shade for quite some time and this is exactly what I wanted. It's not too orange and not too brown and I actually find it surprisingly flattering even on my skin tone. The formula of this one, I find, is superior to the other in that it applies with a really smooth opacity. This formula is also really interesting because it does set but it never looks or feels dry and gives the lips a healthy, hydrated matte look. It's a teensy bit sticky, but not uncomfortably so, and I don't mind the stickiness in exchange for the comfort and long wear time. I've been wearing this constantly since I got it in the mail and I see no signs of stopping.

AOA Studio Wonder Lipliner in Vintage
As you can see in the swatches below, this is the lip liner to be paired with the Vintage lipstick and I think it makes a really good pairing. The shade isn't bang on, but I think this shade and formula is perfect for prepping and defining the lips in preparation for the liquid lipstick. I've only worn this once, but I found the formula to be nicely creamy and comfortable to apply without any pulling. Definitely want to try more of these.

AOA Studio Wonder Cover Concealer in Porcelain
I have to admit that I bought this in spite of less than stellar reviews. Basically the reviews said that this was heavy and creased really terribly - two things that are pretty much dealbreakers for me, but I decided to try it anyway. NOW, I will say that the reviews were right. This is a really heavy concealer and it does crease if you're not careful. The first time I applied it, it looked a MESS. But what I've discovered in trying it a few times is that if you apply one dot under the eye, blend out well with a beautyblender, and set with powder it actually works quite well. It's super pigmented, so you don't need much, and the setting powder definitely helps with the creasing. Unfortunately, Porcelain wasn't the best shade choice for me at the moment, so it will likely go into reserve until winter.

Unicorn, Hero, Vintage, Vintage, Porcelain

On the lips, I find Unicorn runs quite a bit more purple and has a lot more metallic to it. It's a really gorgeous shade and I'm actually planning on picking up more shades in this formula. The real winner here, though, is Hero, which is absolutely dreamy in both shade and formula. I'm definitely planning on trying some more shades in the Wonder Matte formula as well. I plan on picking up some more of the lip liners as well, because I love lip liner and this is a great formula for the price based on my first impression. I could definitely take or leave the concealer. I'll use it - it is workable - and I think that for someone on a tight budget it could definitely be an option, but I do have affordable concealers that I personally prefer.

AOA Studio Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes in Cucumber
I decided to pick up some of their Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes for removing swatches. I like to keep cheaper wipes around for that purpose and I figured these could be a great option. So far so good. I've only tried these wipes a couple of times, but they did a good job with everything but liquid lipstick... which I always need an oil for anyway.

AOA Studio F14 Angled Contour Brush
This brush is GREAT for adding definition to the face. I don't really do much actual contouring anymore, but I like to use bronzer to help give shape and definition to my face, and this is perfect for that. Because it's so small and so fluffy, it really nicely blends the product into the skin with a lot of precision. A couple of hairs have shed, but we'll see how it holds up after multiple washings.

AOA Studio F13 Blush Brush
This is another surprisingly good brush. I've been using it to apply my blush since I got it and I really like the soft blend and precise application of it. I can go a little bit mad with power with blush and I think this brush helps to reign me in. Again, I the true test of this brush is going to be multiple washings, so we'll see how it holds up.

AOA Studio E115 Flat Definer Brush
I haven't had a chance to try this brush on the eyes yet - but I have a feeling I'm going to love it. For me, the size of this brush is what makes it different from anything that I already own - it's tiny! I think this will be perfect for setting pencil liner with powder and also for precisely adding colour to the lower lash line. It also feels like it's going to hold up really well - which is always a plus.

Overall, I have to say that I'm quite impressed with the AOA Studio products from Miss A. I think that for the price of $1USD, these really can't be beat. I've tried a lot of dollarstore type products in testing things out for this blog, and these are some of the best I've found. I'm actually planning on picking up some more stuff from the AOA Studio line up, so if you're interested in full reviews of any of the products or there's something from the brand that you're curious about, please let me know because I'd love to do that!

Never heard of Shop Miss A? It's an online beauty & accessories dollarstore filled with all kinds of things for just $1US. There's a mixed bag of winners and duds on the site - and things sell out quickly, but I've really found some winners from the AOA Studio line!

Thanks for reading!
