EMPTIES: September 2017
When I pulled out the little bag that I toss my empties into each month to prepare for this post, I had a moment of blinking when I realized just how many little things were in that bag. I did a couple of cleanouts this past month, going through the stuff in my collection that I wanted to give away and that I needed to throw away, so there are some non-empties in here that are just old or unusable now, which I've included in this post. This is really a mixed bag of things that really worked for me and others that really, really didn't.
Keep reading to see what's on its way out on my collection this month!
Wet N Wild Color Icon Bronzer in Reserve Your Cabana
Did you know that because there's an SPF in this product, there's an expiration date? I did know... but I'll admit, I left this in my collection a fair bit longer than I should have. Anyway, I think this is alright and I was reaching for it when I wanted a natural looking glow all over the skin, but I'm not sure I'm going to pick it up again. Maybe repurchase.
Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
This bronzer has been in so many favorites posts that I've lost count and I had a backup in reserve as soon as I hit serious pan on this one. I've already made a dent in the new one and I don't see myself going back anytime soon. This is by far my favorite bronzer and worth every single repurchase.
Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer (deluxe sample)
I feel like I've had about 20 different samples of this primer and while I think it's alright and I know it works for a lot of people, this has just never done that much for me. I think I have a couple more samples kicking around that I'll probably use at some point, but this won't be a repurchase.
tarte Clean Slate Poreless Primer (deluxe sample)
I feel about this primer very much the way I feel about the ones above and below it. It's just not my thing. I've had a LONG time and I still didn't actually finish up the tube, I just knew that this was too old to stay in my collection. Won't purchase - if this is even still available.
Benefit The Pore Fessional Primer (deluxe sample)
I feel about Pore Fessional the way I feel about They're Real... super iconic, so many huge fans, and has never been my thing. I feel like I don't see enough smoothing to justify the way that this makes my makeup move around on my skin. So many samples, though, so if I want to give it more tries I've got them, but I won't purchase.
Hard Candy Sheer Envy Eye Brightening Concealer
I think I need to stop trying brightening concealers because they just never really get it done for me, and this was no exception. This is one of the products that's getting tossed without getting used up because it just never really hit for me. No repurchase.
Hard Candy Glamoflauge Lite Concealer Duo
I actually did use one side of this up and I remember quite enjoying it for covering blemishes and discolouration on my face. I would never use this as an undereye concealer, but I did quite like it for the rest of my face. Don't think I'd repurchase it, but I liked it while I had it.
Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer
I bought this ages ago when a lot of UK Youtubers were raving about it and it just... never really did what I wanted it to do. It wasn't particularly brightening on me and I didn't find it had enough coverage for my dark circles. Not sure if this is still available either, but I wouldn't repurchase either way.
Maybelline Color Tattoo in Pomegranate Punk
This is one of the first Maybelline Color Tattoos that I bought and I completely loved it. It's a rich metallic berry shade that works great as a one shadow look or as a base for a berry toned smoky eye and I just loved it. Not sure I'd repurchase this shade, since I didn't actually manage to get through it before it dried up beyond being able to fix, but I did love it and would recommend.
essence Gel Eyeliner
For a long time, this was a go to for me. It's super black, it applies smoothly like a dream, and it stayed put on my eyes really well. I think I would definitely repurchase this if it's still in the essence display, but I don't use gel eyeliner nearly as much as I used to so I'm not rushing out to buy it. That said, if you're looking for an amazing, affordable gel eyeliner, try this one.
blinc Light Brunette Eyebrow Mousse*
I loved this brow mousse and I'm really sad to see it go. This was my go to on light or no makeup days when I just wanted to give my brows a little bit of hold and texture without actually doing my brows. This is definitely a product that I'd buy again once I get through some of the other brow gels in my collection.
Maybelline Eye Studio Define A Brow Pencil
This is a THROWBACK and I actually haven't used it in... probably 2 years? It was tucked in the bottom of my brow stuff and I finally decided to get rid of it. I feel like this was the OG tiny brow pencil back before Anastasia burst out and then everyone was making a tiny brow pencil. Unfortunately, this just doesn't hold up to what else is on the market, so even though this is still available I won't be repurchasing.
Simple Micellar Makeup Remover Wipes
LOVE THESE. There are actually only a couple of wipes brands that I'll buy for use on my face. I buy others to take off swatches and stuff, but these are one of the only ones I'll actually use to remove my makeup. They're super gentle, they get the job done, and I don't feel like there's a residue on my face when I'm done. Definite repurchase.
Onyx Professional 100% Pure Acetone
Since I've been doing nail art lately, pure acetone has been a must have and finally got through this bottle that I bought... Oh, probably 3 years ago. And now I'm into another bottle. I can't say I see any difference between brands of pure acetone, so I can't really give you a review, but this one is affordable and accessible so it's likely the one I'll keep buying.
Paula's Choice CLEAR Pore Normalizing Cleanser* (travel size)
I quite liked this cleanser while I was using it. I was a little bit more impressed with the other products in the Paula's Choice CLEAR try me kit that I reviewed, but I thought this one was solid. I won't be repurchasing though, because I have other cleansers that I prefer. Still, this is worth a try for people with acne prone skin, because it's quite effective.
Hourglass Cosmetics Illusion Skin Tint in Ivory (sample)
So... I hated this. Like I really, really hated it. When I first applied it, it looked beautiful and healthy, but within a few hours I looked in the mirror and it was just sitting on my face and making me look greasy and gross. I had to go in with a kleenex and basically rub most of it off because no makeup looked better than this. I love Hourglass, but my first impression of this was really, really bad. Definitely wouldn't purchase full size.
Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Sheet Mask
When it comes to a hydrating sheet mask, I feel like it just has one job: Hydrate. This one did that, but I feel like I'm going to have to try it again during the colder months to really put it to the test. On my first impression, I think this is okay but nothing to write home about.
AMOREPACIFIC Time Response Targeted Eye Masque*
Wanna write home about something? These masks are AMAZING and there's enough essence in the packet that once I take the masks off my undereyes I basically slather myself in the stuff. All over my face, neck, decolletage... Literally, I would bathe in the stuff. After using this, I wake up the next day with skin that just looks radiant and gorgeous. These are spendy, but so, so very good. Would probably repurchase once I use up all of the ones I'm hoarding.
Wellllll... What a rollercoaster! I feel like there were so many products in here that were straight up OLD and really needed to get out of my collection, a lot of products that were really meh for me, and then a couple of hard core holy grails. Rollercoaster, I say!
Anyway, thanks for reading - I hope you liked reading my ups and downs of these products. Check back soon for my September 2017 Favorites!
