REVIEW: Dove Refresh + Care Dry Shampoo

by - October 02, 2017

Years ago now, after hearing much hype online, the very first dry shampoo I ever tried was from Dove. Now, after years of trying out a great many dry shampoos and with strong preferences for what I look for in one, I got the chance to try out some new additions to the Dove Refresh + Care Druy Shampoo* range. For me, dry shampoo is a must because, to be perfectly honestly, I really hate washing my hair - if only because blow drying is annoying and wet hair makes my skin crawl. Anyway, in order to keep my hair looking and feeling like something other than a greasy rat's nest between washes, I reach for dry shampoo.

Anyway, to read about my experience with these new dry shampoos, keep reading!

Personally, I have high expectations for a dry shampoo. It has to get the job done easily. It can't leave behind a white cast or a heavy buildup. I have to enjoy the smell of it. Honestly, I feel like these aren't at all unreasonable requirements, but I've definitely tried some dry shampoos that don't live up to them.

Dove Refresh + Care Unscented Dry Shampoo*
Fragrance-free, low residue formula allows you to revive your hair when on the go. Helps hair look and feel refreshed even when you skip your regular wash.

This was most definitely the most exciting of these three products for me, though it was more about an option for my partner than for me. Because so many dry shampoos tend to have distinctly feminine fragrances, I think it does leave the affordable dry shampoo options a little slim for guys who don't want to smell floral or fruity or like a sexy, sexy lady. Know what I mean? I think the unscented option is also perfect for those with scent sensitivity, those who work in scent free offices, or those who prefer to get their fragrance from perfume or other scented body products. Honestly, I feel like this was really, really needed on the market and I'm glad Dove filled that space.

Dove Refresh + Care Fresh & Floral Dry Shampoo*
Weightless formula refreshes hair with light scent of fresh florals. Helps cleanse and remove excess oil from the hair to revive between washes. Light scent leaves hair smelling fresh and clean.

Admittedly, I'm not much of a floral girl, personally, but I actually really like the scent of this because while it does have floral notes there's also a freshness to the scent that just feels clean to me. Both the Unscented and the Fresh & Floral dry shampoos have a really great formula as well. I was expecting this to cast white on my hair, but I find that it's actually quite invisible. I would say this is a good dry shampoo for refreshing second day hair that just needs a little boost.

Dove Refresh + Care Volume Dry Shampoo*
The only Dove Dry Shampoo available in 32g, a perfect size for traveling or when on-the-go. Refreshes by instantly removing oil. Perfect for the gym bag.

I really, really thought I wasn't going to like this because I've had bad experiences with volumizing dry shampoos in the past. This one is a bit of a dream though and one that I've actually been carrying around in my purse for those just in case situations. It definitely has a feminine scent, but again it has that freshly washed kind of effect on the hair. The best part for me, though, is that it doesn't make my hair feel like I have a bunch of product in it like other volumizing dry shampoos. This isn't quite invisible and does cast a little bit, but it easily works into the hair and disappears. I think of the three this is actually my favorite - and I did not see that coming.

Overall, I have to say that I'm really impressed with the Dove Refresh + Care Dry Shampoo* options. I'm thrilled that they put out an unscented version, because I really do feel like that has been missing in the market, and the purse/gym bag sized volumizing version is really, really solidly good. If you're looking to try out a new dry shampoo, I'd definitely give a thumbs up to all three of these and recommend giving them a try.

Thanks for reading!
