2017 FAVORITES: Brow & Lash Products

by - January 05, 2018

For me, lashes and brows really help to frame the face and give a perfected look even if I'm doing really natural makeup for the day, so I'm constantly looking for products that are going to take care of those two areas without too much fuss but with the results that I need. I mean, really, who doesn't want beautiful brows and lashes? For me, the lashes are all about volume and the brows are all about precision and a little bit of fullness. There can definitely be some preference involved when it comes to these types of products, so I always like to make my personal tastes clear when I talk about them.

Now, let's get to the favorites, shall we?

essence Volume Stylist 18h Lash Extension Mascara
One thing that essence is absolutely known for is their mascaras, which are extremely affordable and tend to be really well formulated. This year, the mascara that really stood out for me most amongst everything that I used was the essence Volume Stylist 18h Lash Extension Mascara. Though this does have a lengthening claim right there in the name, I feel like this really shines most with the volume that it adds to the lashes. I do love a volumizing formula, but because my lashes can be a little bit sparse I'm definitely more interested in adding a fluffy fullness to the lash, and this mascara does that perfectly. I've found it to be incredibly long wearing without issues of flaking or smudging during regular wear. I also really love the brush on this mascara, which is sort of slim, tapered shape that really allows me to get into the inner corners. For under $6, this mascara is a serious winner and I will definitely keep buying it in 2018.

GIVENCHY Noir Interdit Mascara*
This mascara was definitely a surprise for me. First, I do need to get the one thing that I actually kind of hate about it out of the way, because though it's a favorite it does have a pretty serious downside. This mascara is perfumed. Like really, really perfumed to the point that I can smell it while I'm wearing it. Two thumbs down for that. However, the super black formula that easily builds full, very black, fluffy lashes is enough to make up for the smell and pushes this into the favorites for me. While I do like the bendable-to-90º wand, I don't actually remember to use it very often, I'll admit. The brush, which resembles a small, spiky tooth brush really grabs onto the lashes and builds volume easily and I haven't had any issues with stabbing myself or anything like that. I also find that the wear on this is absolutely incredible. Even if I rub my eyes or take a nap, this doesn't move until I go in with an oil to remove it at the end of the night. So good, just beware the smell.

Esqido Companion Eyelash Glue*
I felt a little bit weird about including a lash glue in my favorites, since I don't actually wear lashes all that often, but this glue has definitely pushed me to wearing them more often. My one downside for this glue is that I find I need to let it rest a little bit longer than some other glues so that it gets tacky and really adheres the lash to my eyes, but once I've done that it's aces. I really like how easy the brush tip makes it to apply the glue without any worry about globs and once it gets tacky I find that the lashes stick down really well and I don't have issue with them lifting in the corners throughout the day. Overall, I have to say... this kind of kicks the ass of any other lash glue that I've tried and I'm 100% on board with higher end lash glues that really work, such as this one.

Annabelle Skinny Brow Liner
Admittedly, this isn't my all time favorite brow pencil, but it's the one I've repurchased and used the most in the past year for a couple of reasons. First, I don't actually find that I run through this pencil as quickly as some others. Second, there are two shades that work really well for my colouring depending on whether I want more bold brows or want to keep it a little bit more natural and soft. Finally, the price is really right for this. I also do find that it applies really nicely, although I think I personally would be happy if it was just a hair more firm of a pencil, but that's really just a nitpick. Overall, I really think the Annabelle Skinny Brow Liner is a great drugstore option - obviously, since it's in my top favorites of the year!

Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer
If there's one absolute rid-or-die favorite in this category for me, it's definitely the Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer, which has basically blown every other brow gel out of the water for me this year. I didn't think I would be interested in it initially and was only encouraged to try it after a recommendation on Youtube, and I basically fell in love with it instantly. I love the paddle style applicator, which allows for precision and really packs a good amount of product into the lashes without being goopy or overloading them. The Soft Brown shade has a really neutral undertone so my brows sit in that sweet spot between being too ashy and too red toned. And there's something about the fullness and texture combined with the hold that this offers that is just perfect for what I personally want my brow gel to do. There is nothing I want to reach for over this in my collection, even from high end brands, and when I do I always end up disappointed. If there's one thing you take away from this post to try out, it's this product.

Admittedly, I don't try everything new on the market. There are a few products that I heard a lot about this year that I just didn't try, like the L'Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara that everyone on Youtube was obsessed with this year, but all of these products really stand out for me amongst the ones that I've tried. But seriously... If you haven't tried the Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer yet... do it. I'm going to stock up just in case it doesn't have the following that I think it deserves, because I don't want it to sneakily get discontinued without me having a stash.

I'd love to know about what your favorite lash and brow products are in the comments - I always like recommendation as well.

Thanks for reading! Come back next week for more favorites - it's a long process over here!
