REVIEW: LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask
Recently, I've been hearing a lot of raves about the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask - a product I've actually wanted to try for quite some time - so I finally decided to pick it up once it was finally back in stock at Sephora. Initially, I wasn't quite sure what to think about this, since the idea of a lip sleeping mask brought visions of thick, gunky mask all over my skin. Of course... Should have really known better, right?
Anyway, if you want to find out how this product has been working for me and if it has lived up to the hype, keep reading!
About:
Lip Sleeping Mask has a softening balm texture that closely adheres to lips for quick absorption. Enriched with vitamin C and antioxidants, its Berry Mix Complex™ offers a nutritiously sweet and fragrant blend of raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, and blueberry extracts to indulge the senses. Its exclusive Moisture Wrap™ technology boasts hyaluronic acid and minerals to form a protective film over the lips to lock in moisture and active ingredients. A generous layer of this soothing mask at bedtime helps reduce flakiness so you can wake up to lips that feel refreshed, supple, and soft to the touch.
I have to admit, this isn't really at all what I was expecting it to be - but that really isn't a bad thing. First this comes packaged in a simple glass jar packaging and contains 20g of product, which I think is pretty amazing for this type of product. It also comes with a little silicone applicator, which I initially wasn't sure was necessary but have ultimately decided that I love for a couple of reasons. I've never been a huge fan of lip balm tubs, because I don't like digging my fingers into the product even at all, but this completely solves that for me. The silicone is also really soft and flexible, so I don't have to worry so much about picking up too much product with it and it really easily applies the product to my lips. Two thumbs up for the applicator - who knew?
The sweet, berry scent of this is a lot lovelier than I was expecting it to be, I think. While it is very distinctly fruity, sort of in the way that something like a Lip Smackers would be, I find the scent to be less synthetic and just generally kind of yummy. Scent, if it has one, is something that can make or break a lip balm for me, since it's literally right under my nose, and this is definitely a good one.
Another way that this product surprised me was the texture. I think I was expecting it to be thick thick, like some other lip masks that I've used in the past, but this can actually be applied in a really light layer when you're just hanging out and then applied heavier at night. When applied lightly, I actually love the way that this makes my lips look and I've been reaching for it to pop on for light or no makeup days because it gives my lips a plump, hydrated, gorgeous look. It also feels really gorgeous, with a creamy feel that I don't get from waxier formulas of lip balm.
Overall, this is a really, really great lip product that works. When I use this at night, I wake up with lips that feel smooth, plump and hydrated, and I can also use it throughout the day if my lips are feeling a little bit dry. Even though it's winter and I inevitably get dry, chapped lips when the weather gets cold and the air gets dry, since I've been reaching for this consistently I haven't had any trouble with cracking or flaking lips. Now, one thing that I will say is that I haven't tested this as a healing product, because my lips haven't gotten to that point this winter, but as a product to maintain hydrated, healthy lips I definitely give this two thumbs up.
In short, it lived up to the hype!
The LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask is available at Sephora here in Canada and retails for $24 - and it's worth every single penny!
