12 NAILS OF CHRISTMAS: Contemporary Black, White & Rose Gold Nail Art

by - December 17, 2018

Hey guys! For Day 9 of my 12 Nails Of Christmas, I've got a mani that was... intense, to say the least, to put together. It's a lot of layers of polish and ultimately I did this over two nights because I was trying to figure out how to make it just right. That being said, it actually didn't take as long as it seems like it should have and it feels very much worth it! I'm also going to be entering this one in the Nail Polish Canada Holiday 2018 Nail Art Contest and I'd really love it if my readers would head over and vote for me!

Base without black accents!

My initial plan for this mani was that I wanted to layer sheer polish with glitters and snowflake stamping for a really dimensional mani. Because I didn't want my nail line to show, I started by sponging on some white polish so that it was almost like a french tip. Because this mani has so many layers, I'm just going to lay them out for you that way.

Layer 1: BornPrettyStore White Stamping Polish Sponged onto nail tip with clear polish for a smooth gradient.
Layer 2: Essie Gel Couture Polish in Lace To The Altar
Layer 3: Essence Mountain Calling Snow Effect Glitter
Layer 4: Essie Gel Couture Polish in Picture Perfect
Layer 5: White Snowflake Stamping using BornPrettyStore Celebration BPX-L008 Stamping Plate
Layer 6: Essie Gel Couture Polish in Picture Perfect
Layer 7: White  & Rose Gold Snowflake Stamping using BornPrettyStore Christmas S003 Stamping Plate
Layer 9: China Glaze Fairy Dust Holographic Top Coat
Layer 10: Essence The Gel Polish Top Coat

Obviously, some of these layers dry better than the others, but... still, this is a pretty intense mani and it ended up looking more like a gel mani than traditional nail polish. A friend of mine even asked if these are my natural nails. Still, I'm pretty in love with this base!

With black accents!

I spent the next 24 hours after I finished the base trying to decide what I wanted to do with it. I absolutely loved it - as one might hope considering it's 10 layers of nail polish and a whole lot of time and effort to get this look - but it wasn't quite Christmas-y enough. Know what I mean? After much pondering, I decided that what I really wanted to add were some black accents.

Using BornPrettyStore Black Stamping Polish, I started with the swirling Christmas Tree design from the XY Merry Christmas 02 Stamping Plate on my accent nail. Next, I added these super simple and fairly small snowflakes to my first and pinkie fingers from the BornPrettyStore Christmas L001 Stamping Plate. After that, I struggled pretty hard to decide what to put on my middle finger, but ultimately decided that I wanted to add Christmas wishes so I went with the Merry Christmas images from the Christmas L001 Stamping Plate, stamped diagonally so that they fit on the nail and added a tiny snowflake for good measure. I finished with another coat of Essence The Gel Polish Top Coat - and voila! One of the most labour and time intensive mani's I've ever done!

Up close is where this mani really shines!
