12 NAILS OF CHRISTMAS: Red & White Candy Cane Nails

by - December 19, 2018

Hey guys! We're getting close to the end here with my 12 Nails of Christmas. As we get closer to the holiday, I feel like I'm getting a little more on the nose with my Christmas nail art and I feel like today is no exception. I wanted red. Hard red. So much red. I feel like this mani definitely ticks the red box for me. I also feel like this is a mani that you could recreate at home without needing any tools as long as you have some red and white nail polishes, some glitter, and a little bit of tape!

Without further adieu, keep reading for a closer look at this mani!

For this mani I started with two coats of Sinful Colors Sugar Sugar on all of my nails. For the middle finger, I decided to burnish some glitter onto the nail for a really strongly glittery look. To do this, I first applied a coat of Yellow Stopper Base Coat and waited until it was tacky before going in with red glitter on a sponge tip applicator. I feel like one of the best tutorials on how to burnish glitter onto the nails is actually from Simply Nailogical, so I would head over to to this video if you want to learn how to burnish glitter onto your nails. Once the glitter was applied, I added two fairly thick coats of top coat in order to get a really smooth finish to the nails.

For my candy cane nail, I actually did try to do this both hand painted and with striping tape, but because I'm such a ridiculous perfectionist (and not particularly good at hand painting or using striping tape), I ultimately decided that stamping was the way to go. I went in with Born Pretty Store White Stamping Polish and the Hehe 029 Hufflepuff Stamping Plate and used the super basic striped image and turned it diagonally when I applied it to the nail to get this swirled candy look. I would have liked to have something a little bit more intricate with slimmer lines, but what can you do? I finished with a coat of Seche Vive Top Coat and voila!

One thing that I really like about this mani is that it is quite impactful but still really easy. When I was first getting into nail art, I was constantly looking for nail art that I could do without tools, so I love when I create a mani now that could be recreated without the need for tools - as long as you have a steady hand or some tape!

Don't forget, I've got two more nail art looks leading up to Christmas, so be sure to check back here for my last two looks.

Also, I would love if you would head over and vote for me in the Nail Polish Canada Holiday Nail Art Contest, where I entered my Contemporary Black, White & Rose Gold Christmas Nails!

Thanks for reading!
