REVIEW: AVONxTHEFACESHOP Collaboration

by - December 13, 2019

I have to say, I had a little bit of a giddiness when the products I'm featuring in this post arrived to me. I had no idea that Avon was going to be teaming up with THEFACESHOP to start selling KBeauty products, but I'm 100% here for it. I feel like this is a really interesting collaboration and one that will definitely open up the world of Korean beauty and skin care to a market that maybe isn't yet aware of it. I was also really, really exited to try out the products because they're all ones that I had never tried out before.

So, without further ado, let's take a closer look at the products!

AVONxTHEFACESHOP Ink Lasting Primer*
Our Ink Lasting Primer is your makeup pre-game, turning your skin into a silky-smooth canvas while keeping makeup in place all day. It instantly smooths uneven skin texture and tones to brighten and cover skin imperfections.

This is one of those very silky silicone primers that sort of fills in pores and lines to give a really smoothed, matte appearance to the skin. I actually didn't think I was going to like this because I prefer a hydrating primer, but this actually ended up working really beautifully with my skin. I think a little bit goes a long way with this primer and I generally like to warm it between my fingers and then press it along the apples of my cheeks, around my nose, and the center of my forehead where my pores tend to be most visible and I tend to get oily before going in with my foundation.

The first time I used this, I paired it with the cushion foundation, and I looked in the mirror after about 3 hours of wear and said out loud to myself, "Damn, my skin looks goooood." It really does give a beautifully smooth canvas for makeup and it really holds up throughout the day. I would personally recommend this for anyone with combination to oily skin, but I would definitely not recommend it if you have dry skin because it's really, really matte and could end up feeling drying on the skin. Overall, though, this is a really solid primer and I'm surprised at how much I enjoy it.

AVONxTHEFACESHOP Ink Lasting Cushion*
Smooth, natural matte finish. Buildable medium to-full coverage. Brightens and evens skin tone. Weightless feel, no caking. Unique cushion makes application easier. Antibacterial applicator and mirror included.

I'm a big fan of a good cushion foundation, but in my experience all cushions are definitely not created equal so I was really interested to see how this one would fare. First off, I love the compact itself. It's really sleek and I don't mind at all pulling out for touch ups when I'm out and about - which is definitely one of the big plusses to me about using a cushion in the first place. It also has a really nice quality mirror, which is definitely necessary and not always the case. The applicator is... fine. It's pretty standard for cushion compacts and does a good job of applying and blending the product into the skin.

One plus of cushion foundations is that they're necessarily lightweight, but I've noticed that sometimes they end up having really sheer coverage as a result. This one, I would say, offers a light to medium coverage that does a good job of evening out the overall look of the skin, but still always your skin to show through. I would also say that the claim of being a "smooth, natural matte finish" is also really, really accurate. It's definitely not a dewy foundation, but it's also not a dry matte. Overall, I've really, really been loving this cushion as a day to day coverage product and would recommend it to just about any skin type for a natural looking, evened out complexion.

AVONxTHEFACESHOP Moisture Cushion Blush*
For a dewy, rosy watercolour-like flush: Portable cushion blush is great for on-the-go. Long-wearing, lightweight formula looks fresh and natural. Antibacterial applicator and mirror included. Blend of passionflower, rosehip oil and vitamin E leaves skin feeling nourished.

I'm gonna be REAL honest with you, I thought I was gonna hate this. When I first swatched it, it seemed so light that it seemed like it would hardly show up on my face and I figured any pigmentation that I managed to get to show up would just fade in five minutes. The level to which I was wrong about that assessment is actually vaguely embarrassing and reminds me just how important it is to actually use the products before forming an opinion because swatches tell you very little about how a product is going to perform.

The shade that was sent to me is 03 Coral, which definitely leans to more of a peachy coral than a red or pink one. The applicator actually makes it really, really easy to apply and blend into the skin, but I've also tried this with a small, dense brush and it works quite well also. I have to say, if you're fair like me I would definitely recommend using a light hand when you first try this because it's deceptively pigmented. It really, really shows up on my skin and I have to be careful that I don't go overboard with it. It also lasts insanely well on the skin, holding up beautifully throughout full workdays and well into the evening, keeping me looking fresh and healthy with a really natural, no greasy dewiness. Seriously, I am eating my words on everything I thought this would be, because it's an amazingly well formulated cushion blush.

AVONxTHEFACESHOP Flat Velvet Lipstick in Fluffy Pink*
Flat square tip shapes, lines, contours and fills lips effortlessly: Powdery velvet matte finish. Visibly smooths fine lines. Infused with soothing calendula oil. Available in 10 highly pigmented shades.

When I first saw this tube, I sort of felt like it was just going to be a standard chubby lip pencil, not particularly exciting. However, as soon as I popped off the cap I was really, really fascinated by the shape. Instead of being your standard crayon type shape, this is almost sort of a flat tip in a rectangle shape that has really crisp, straight edges. Obviously we're not reinventing the wheel here, but I really like when brands do a product that we've seen a million times, but change something like this to offer a different - and sometimes much more convenient - mode of application. For me, the shape of this pencil really allows an incredible amount of precision at the edges of my lips, but I can easily just give it a half turn and also really quickly and easily fill in the lips. Two thumbs way up for that.

The formula of this lipstick is really densely pigmented and creamy, allowing for full coverage in one swipe without any patchiness or skipping. On the lips, it is a matte finish but it's definitely one of those creamier mattes that feels comfortable but still wears for a long time without setting. That said, I would recommend prepping your lips with lip balm before application because otherwise they can end up feeling a little bit dry when you remove the product. Admittedly, this shade - a sort of rosy coral pink - looks pretty horrible on my skin tone so I haven't reached for it often, but I'm definitely interested in picking up another shade because I do enjoy the format and formula so very much. Definitely recommend.

Avon is also carrying a selection of skin care products from THEFACESHOP, The Therapy and Dr. Belmeur. I was sent a couple of products to try out in these mini sizes and I'm overall pretty impressed with them. The AVONxTHEFACESHOP Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser* is a really, really effective cleanser that I find leaves my skin feeling fresh and hydrated after I rinse. The Dr. Belmeur Cica Recovery Cream* is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS and feels incredible on my skin when I'm suffering from winter related irritation or have just done a facial or used some more intense actives on my skin. And The Therapy Oil Blending Cream* somehow manages to be both lightweight and very, very rich at the same time - a great night cream option for those of us who want to look like a greaseball of moisturizer at bedtime during the winter.

I literally squealed when the PR package for these products arrived and I think this was a really, really smart collaboration for these two brands. I love the idea that more and more people are going to get to experience Kbeauty makeup and skin care through this collab and, in my opinion, that can really only be a good thing. Not only does this help to bring these products to a different audience, but it makes them a little bit more accessible to people who don't have a THEFACESHOP store near them. I'm also really impressed with the makeup products, all of which were new to me and all of which I really, really love the formulas and performance of.

The products in the AVONxTHEFACESHOP collaboration are available now from local Avon reps as well as on Avon.ca! Check it out!
