MANI MONDAY: Cloudy Pastel Blue Smoosh Nails

by - April 06, 2020

Hey guys! I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy and home as much as possible - I know I am! For our April #CBBxManiMonday theme, we went with a perfect entrance into spring with Pastels! I love pastel nails and I always get really excited to pull out my pastel polishes as the weather starts to get warm. This week's mani is actually something I sort of stumbled into by accident... and I'm obsessed! I paired a beautiful indie flakie polish with a couple of really, really soft pastel crémes from OPI and though the result is pretty subtle, I'm kind of in love with it. I called it blue... some people might call it green. It's really that in between shade that's probably kind of a really soft, cool mint. But. CLOUDY PASTEL BLUE. Ahem.

Keep reading to check it out!

Like I said, this mani happened sort of by accident while I was playing around with what I wanted to do - and I really was just reaching for what I had on my nail desk to begin with. I started with a coat of OPI Mexico City Move-Mint* as my base. This polish is just so pretty, almost as though you added a drop of teal to a vat of white and got this soft, crisp colour.

I don't really know what inspired me to try a smoosh, but I just sort of went for it on one nail to see what it looked like. Once my base was dry, I added dots of my base polish along with Cadillacquer Summer Rain* and OPI Hue Is The Arist?* to my stamper and then just sort of pounced it on the nail until I got this really soft, subtle marbled look. (I actually couldn't seem to really capture the marble in photos no matter how I lit them, but the highlights really pop a lot more in person.) I feel sort of in love with the look immediately and did the same to all of my nails.

I finished with a generous coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Clearly Quick and voila!

I've always really loved those indie polishes that have flakies in a really soft pastel créme or milky crelly base but have found a lot of the ones I've personally tried to be a little bit difficult to work with, so I really love that I was able to (accidentally) devise this mani in a way that sort of mimics that look. I have a sneaking suspicion that this is going to be a technique I play with a lot more in coming months!

If you're interesting in picking up Cadillacquer's Summer Rain* to try this technique yourself, it's available from (and was gifted to me by) NailStuff.ca! You can also use my affiliate code TRYSH to save 10% off your order!
