REVIEW: Wet N Wild Hello Halo Blushlighter in After Sex Glow

by - April 22, 2020

When it comes to highlighters at the drugstore, my personal favorites have been and continue to be from Wet N Wild, so when I saw the Wet N Wild Hello Halo Blushlighter duos in the display at my local store I knew I had to pick one up. Although there were two different shade options in the display (3 available online), the clear choice for me was After Sex Glow (although, on the Wet N Wild website, I think this shade is called I Met Someone), so I grabbed it and couldn't wait to get it on my face.

A blush and highlighter duo that instantly sculpts, defines, and highlights in one sweep. These soft, buildable shades contain ultra-reflective, micro-fine pearl pigments that create a luminous, radiant glow and blend to a perfect finish. Each duo has two levels of intensity for color that compliments every skin tone. Sweep on the two colors, using them alone or blended together for contouring, or layer them on top of each other. Available in 3 Cruelty-free, Gluten-free and Fragrance-free duo shades.

I had really, really high hopes for the formula of these highlighters and they absolutely did not disappoint. Like the single pan Wet N Wild MegaGlo Highlighters, both of these powders have a really creamy, smooth formula that gives a sort of wet look to the skin rather than being shimmery. Even when pretty heavily finger swatched, these have a nice, reflective look that is smooth on the skin. When applied with a brush, the formula is quite buildable without getting heavy and overly accentuating texture on the skin, so you can customise either a soft glow or a more metallic bling to the skin.

For my skin tone, the two shades in this compact really serve two very different purposes, which makes one shade the real standout for me even though they're both really gorgeous. The lighter of the two shades is a true champagne gold with a peachy undertone, so it doesn't pull too yellow on the skin (always my issue when it comes to gold or champagne highlighters.) It looks a little darker in the pan or in a heavy swatch than it ends up being when applied to the face with a brush for me, and I find that when I use it I end up with the most natural, lit from within glow on my skin. I like to apply this with a fluffy brush and then sort of buff it into the skin and I end up with a really pretty lit-from-within type of glow - which is what I personally prefer.

On my skintone, the second shade in this duo is definitely a blush topper shade and is way too dark for me to get away with using as a straight up highlighter. That said, I think this would be absolutely stunning as a highlighter on a deeper skin tone, especially one with cooler undertones. It's an apricot shade that's sort of the deeper, bolder sister to Blossom Glow from the MegaGlo range. Because it's so glowy, I think this is one that I'll personally save for the summer when I have a bit of a tan and want to add some luminosity to a peachy matte blush for a summer glow. Formulawise, though, this is an absolute stunner just the others and I think people will love it.

L. to R. Precious Petals, Blossom Glow, After Sex Glow 1 & 2, Bloom Time

I wanted to compare the other Wet N Wild MegaGlo Highlighters in my collection because initially I thought that the two shades in this duo might be close to what I already own, but as you can see they really aren't at all. Precious Petals is a shade that's a little dark for my skin but one I can make work in the summer months if I'm careful in applying. Blossom Glow is a very pale rosy champagne shade that works best on my skin when it's very, very pale in the winter. And Bloom Time, probably my favorite highlighter of all time, is a peachy shade that looks way too dark for me in the pan, but is bright and gorgeous on the skin.

Honestly, this duo lived up to every one of my expectations and I'm absolutely thrilled to add it to my collection. Since I picked it up, I've been reaching for it pretty much every single day and using the lighter of the two shades as my every day highlighter. The darker of the two shades, for me, isn't quite what I'm looking for at this time of year, but I definitely think that I'll get a lot of use out of it this coming summer when it fits a little bit more into what I like to wear at that time of year.

The Wet N Wild Hello Halo Blushlighter in After Sex Glow is starting to pop up in local displays and is also available online!
