MANI MONDAY: Black & White Minimalist Nail Art

by - June 29, 2020

Hey guys! It's our last week of June's Nail Art Roulette for #CBBxManiMonday and this week my pairing was a Black & White/Nude colour story and a Minimalist theme. Considering I have a tendency to take a more everything-but-the-kitchen-sink kind of approach to my nails, this was outside of my comfort zone but I found that I really loved the results within the parameters of keeping it monochrome and simple. Also... I always forget just how much I love a dotticure!

Keep reading for more!

I was going to go with a nude base for this, but Essie's Go With The Flowy was just calling to me and I figured that going with a soft grey would still stay within the black and white color story... right? So I applied two coats as my base and then added a coat of top coat so that I had a really smooth surface for my nail art.

For this mani, I was inspired by a lot of the minimalist nail art designs that you can find on Pinterest, that incorporates sort of blobs of white polish paired with black dots... so that's what I did. Using Born Pretty Store White Stamping Polish, I just sort of blobbed it on there, making sure to get a sort of loose, blobby side. (How often do you get to use the term "loose and blobby" to describe nail art???)

For the dots, I used Born Pretty Store Black Stamping Polish along with the medium sized dotting tool from the NailStuff.ca Dotting Tool Trio*, which was perfect for getting the sizes of dots that I was looking for. Once I was finished with the dotting, I let this dry for probably an hour to really give the dots time to harden before I did anything else, because I've ruined many a mani by top coating too early.

To finish, I added a generous coat of Seche Vive Top Coat and voila!

If you're in need of some dotting tools for your collection, I do highly recommend the NailStuff.ca Dotting Tool Trio*, which were kindly gifted to me and which I've reached for a TON since I received them.
