REVIEW: CeraVe Hydrating Serum with Hyaluronic Acid

by - July 09, 2020

My love for CeraVe products is pretty much unparalleled at this point. They're one of those brands that I always have multiple products from in my rotation and I'm always - always - excited to try something new from the brand because at this point I just know it'll be good. So, of course, I was super, super excited to hear that they were releasing the CeraVe Hydrating Serum with Hyaluronic Acid*. I mean... obviously. Hyaluronic acid is another staple in my routine, so to be able to marry this particular ingredient with my favorite brand was a thrill. But how did it work out for me?

About:
With three essential ceramides and vitamin B5, that restore and maintain your skin's natural protective barrier and soothe dry skin, CeraVe Hydrating Serum provides the skin with much-needed moisture and more. Designed for use on its own or layered with other moisturizers, this refreshing gel-cream formula replenishes skin hydration while helping restore the protective skin barrier and improve the apparance of wrinkles due to dryness for instantly smoother, softer skin. With our highest concentration of hyaluronic acid, three essential ceramides, soothing vitamin B5 and patented time-release MVE Delivery Technology, this daily-use serum supplies the skin with all-day hydration.

In the past, pretty much all of the hyaluronic acid serums that I've tried have been in a gel formula, some of which are pretty sticky, so I was kind of surprised when I first pumped this out and found that it's more of a lightweight gel-cream sort of texture. It's still quite lightweight and melts really easily into the skin, but there's a silkier feel to it and I don't struggle with any stickiness when using this. That said, I do like to give this a few minutes to really sink into the skin before I follow with anything, whether that's another moisturizer or straight into my SPF.

This is one of those products where you're immediately going to see a difference in the plumpness and look of hydration to the skin, but it also maintains that hydrated, bouncy look and feel throughout the day. For me, especially during these summer months, I don't find that I need to follow this with a moisturizer for day time wear because it really is giving me that boost of hydration in a formula that feels like it it's not just going to evaporate off my skin. Does that make sense? It feels like a hydrating serum and lightweight moisturizer in one, which I think is bolstered by the inclusion of CeraVe's 3 essential ceramides to help protect your skin's barrier.

Pump packaging - always a plus!

I will say, this does have a slightly higher price point than some of the popular lower cost HA options that we've seen cropping up from brands like The Ordinary and The Inkey List, but for me there really isn't even a comparison when it comes to those products. Not only is the formula completely different, but I think this one stands well above both of those when it comes to both the formula and the performance. This is a seriously gorgeous product and, like with a lot of other CeraVe products, I think that if you put it in fancier packaging and slapped a higher price tag on it, no one would bat an eye.

Are we surprised that I've fallen in love with another product from CeraVe? Whenever anyone in my life asks me for skin care recommendations, I always lead with CeraVe. I think the proof is in the pudding and they're a brand that offers products that do exactly what they say they're going to do and do it well. There's no bells and whistles with this serum, but in my opinion there really don't need to be. It gets the job done and offers beautiful, lightweight hydration while also protecting your skin's barrier, and it's suitable for literally any skin type.

The CeraVe Hydrating Serum with Hyaluronic Acid* is available now where CeraVe is sold!
