NAIL ART: Neon Floral Smoosh Mani

by - August 21, 2020

If there's one technique that I will always revert back to with nail art, it's definitely a smoosh mani because they're so quick, easy and versatile that I can always think of something to do with them. Being that we're coming to the end of summer (at least according to my fall-loving brain that is already shifting into sweaters and soup and distinctly fall colours) I wanted to pull out my favorite neon polishes and get one more super bright mani in before I inevitably tuck them away until next summer.

Honestly, the Color Club neons never let me down and I have so many corals, pinks and purples in my collection that it might make your head spin - and I love it. I grabbed four for this mani - an orange coral, a pink, a red coral, and a purple - and applied the pink shade in one coat as a base to all of my nails.

Next, I went in and added dots of each polish to my stamper, making sure that I applied more than I would need so that I would get a nice, smooth smoosh. That's one tip I have if you're smooshing, you have to make sure that you have enough polish that it doesn't start to dry and get tacky because that will result in designs that don't feel as smooth and marbled on the nail. I also applied a cuticle barrier because otherwise clean up is a nightmare on a smoosh. Next I just sort of pounced it onto the nail until I got the desired design and then cleaned up with acetone on a small brush.

Because I sincerely feel that black stamping pops pretty much any base, but particularly a neon one, I decided to go in with this summery flower image from the WhatsUpNails B044 From Ground Comes Life Stamping Plate (a new favorite in my collection) along with Born Pretty Store Black Stamping Polish.

I finished with a generous coat of Seche Vive Quick Dry Top Coat and voila!

I do a LOT of smooshing on my nails, but there really are myriad reasons for that. 1. It's just so pretty. 2. It's a super versatile technique, from the colours you use to the different looks you can get with different techniques - Check out this post for more details on that. 3. It's actually really easy to do, even though it might be a little bit scary at first, as it was for me.

Whenever I do a smoosh, I always always always reach for my NailStuff.ca Stamper* - it has a huge head with great visualization so you can really see what your smoosh is looking like as you pounce. Also, it holds a LOT of polish without making a mess of the stamper. If you're interested in picking it up, feel free to use my affiliate code TRYSH at NailStuff.ca for 10% off your order!
