CHRISTMAS NAIL ART: Classic & Simple Stamped Sweater Nails

by - December 03, 2020

One of the first Christmas manis I ever did when I was first getting into nail art was a sweater mani and it continues to be one of my favorite things to do every winter. It's a pretty versatile style. Even without different stamping designs or nail vinyls, you can keep it simple like I did with this mani or go really intricate with colours - sort of like actual Christmas sweaters. I decided for this mani that I wanted to keep it super simple and pretty and I fell absolutely, completely in love with how it turned out. It's basic and simple and I honestly couldn't stop looking at my nails.

This is one of those mani's that wasn't really planned, it just sort of happened as it happened. I started with three thin coats of OPI's Robots Are Forever as my base. This polish is sostunningomg. It's a milky white base with silver(?) microflakes and I honestly don't know how A) this came out with a spring collection, and B) OPI doesn't put some version of this in every holiday collection because it's just such a snowy shade and I love it. It's still a little bit sheer at those three coats, but I think with this design you really can't tell - and I also like the tone my skin showing through gives this base. Ughn. Obsessed, I swear.

In the spirit of keeping this mani really simple, I picked this one image from the What's Up Nails B022 Stamping Plate and paired it with one stamping polish, Clear Jelly Stamper's Pass The Pinot. While I could have applied the image in the same direction for all of the nails, I decided to alternate to give it a little bit of added interest, which I think worked really well since one end of the image is so much more densely filled in than the other.

Once I was finished with my stamping, I sealed it in with a water based top coat before adding a glossy top coat for strength and shine and voila!

I think sometimes I get very much in the mindset of everything but the kitchen sink and forget just how much I really love a straightforward, simple mani - of course, this isn't exactly minimalist, but you know what I mean. I love this base polish (and you'll definitely see it at least once more later this month) and I think it brings something a little bit special to this mani overall while still being really simple.

Be sure to check back every day leading up to Christmas Eve for more holiday and winter themed nail art here on the blog and head over to @pblnails for video tutorials of all of my nail art.
