CHRISTMAS NAIL ART: Icy Golden Lavender Snowflake Nails
When I first saw the Essie Winter Trend 2020 Collection, there were definitely a few shades that I really, really wanted to get my hands on - and ultimately they didn't end up being the shades I picked up when I saw them in store because something about this one just absolutely grabbed me and I had to have it. (And I was trying really hard to be responsible and not just buy the whole collection, but now I'm sort of regretting that....) Anyway, I knew I had to use it in an actual holiday mani (and in this case, holiday definitely just means generically wintery) so... I did!

All of the shades in this collection include this really strong gold shimmer that gives a really strong flash on the nails and for me really makes this collection a stand out at the drugstore, but the combination of this really pretty lavender with the gold sheen just absolutely grabbed me. For this mani, I started with two coats - though I will say that if you're going to wear this without nail art, I would go for three coats of full, full opacity. I really wanted to lean into that sheen, so once I had the base on, I went in with a gold glitter on a ripped bit of makeup sponge and just added a random sort of vein of glitter to each nail.
I wanted to keep the stamping simple but distinctly icy and wintery, so I grabbed for the Nicole Diary L13 Stamping Plate. I paired two different images from the plate to create this snowy and icy look. For my middle two fingers I used this one image that has the sort of icy shards at the top and a few scattered snowflakes that spread over the nails - this is seriously a great image. For the pinkie and ring finger, I started with the scattered snowfall image (which is just dots, but stamping is just so much easier...) and then I added some snowflakes from that same image I used for the middle two nails just sort of randomly over the nails.
Once I was happy with the stamping, I sealed it in with a water based top coat and the finished with a generous coat of glossy quick dry top coat and voila!

For me, this mani is really all about that base shade. (And did I mention I'm kicking myself for not picking up the whole collection? Might have to pick it up online....) My mind doesn't really go to golden lavender when I think about winter/holiday shades, but this is why I'm not a nail polish collection curator - although that would be a bit of a dream job. There's something about this that just absolutely feels really festive to me and adding the white iciness with the stamping really drives home the winteriness of it all. I love this polish so much, you guys. If you see it, definitely grab it!
