NAIL ART: Bright & Fresh Summer Kiwi Nails

by - August 02, 2021

There's something about summer and fruit themed nail art, I think. I've wanted to use the kiwi image from the Whats Up Nails B008 Summer Seeds Stamping Plate for ages now, but I hadn't gotten around to it and I wanted to use just the perfect green to get the look I wanted. I own a lot of green polishes, I really do absolutely love them, but I wanted to find just the right green to use for this mani and I recently found a beautiful, unique green in the drugstore that paired beautifully with a flakie topper to create the base for this mani.

I'm not sure the expanded shade range of the Revlon Ultra HD Snap! nail polishes are available everywhere, but I recently picked up this shade Bright Side locally - clearly it's a green shade that I needed in my collection. I would describe this shade as an acid green. It definitely leans towards yellow in undertones and has that right intense brightness that isn't quite what I'd call a neon, but feels borderline? Does this make any sense? Either way, this polish is absolutely gorgeous and distinctly unique, especially in the drugstore. For this mani, I applied two thin coats and got really easy, full, smooth coverage.

I wanted to add a little bit of texture to the base polish, but I didn't want to add any real contrast, so I decided to apply a layer of Holo Taco Solar Unicorn Skin. This topper lives in the right color zone to add texture and really show up over this green but in a way that feels cohesive and doesn't necessarily stand out, which is exactly what I was looking for and I think works well to create the vibe of the texture of a kiwi.

I used my favorite black stamping polish to pick up the image on my stamper - Whats Up Nails' Neither Noir, in my opinion is the best black polish in existence. To fill in the center of the image, I knew that I didn't want to go with white because it would be too stark, so I did some distinct hunting through my collection to find just the right shade and I ended up going with OPI's This Isn't Greenland, which is a really soft green that definitely has those yellow undertones and a slight ashiness to it, which I think worked really perfectly for what I was going for.

To transfer the image to the nail, I first applied a thin layer of sticky base coat and let it dry down to tacky for about a minute before transferring straight to the nail. To finish, I floated a generous layer of quick dry glossy top coat to all of my nails and voila!

I'm really thrilled with how this mani turned out - I think it's actually pretty simple and at a glance you might not even know what it is you're looking at, but is also instantly recognizable as kiwi. Also, the two polishes that I paired to make the base for this mani are kind of magical together. The sort of acid green cream really works kind of perfectly for a low-contrast vibe with the Holo Taco Unicorn Skin. Fun!
