HALLOWEEN NAIL ART: Classic Black & Red Bat French Mani

by - October 28, 2021

When I was planning out the mani's I wanted to do this month - trust me, 31 days of Halloween themed nail art takes A LOT of planning - I knew that I wanted to do a design like this one with the sort of... gradient bats design with black at the tip. Luckily, the Uberchic Beauty Halloween 07 Stamping Plate, which was their 2021 Halloween plate, has the perfect image for this design. I went back and forth on a few different options for the background, but I ultimately settled on this stunning red holo base and even though the photos do not do the in person mani justict I'm standing by it.

For my birthday this year, I decided to treat myself to some new and new-to-me polishes from Starrily (from the amazing NailStuff.ca, with whom I am an affiliate) because all of the polishes I've tried from Starrily have been absolutely stunning. I'd had my eye on the shade Infrared from the most recent (I believe) Kelli Marissa collaboration collection pretty much ever since it was launched towards the end of last year, but I finally pulled the trigger on it last month. It's a stunning pinky red jelly packed with gold shimmer and holo flakes and it's just... chef's kiss! It's also insanely pigmented, particularly for this type of formula, and for this mani I applied one coat to all of my nails and got really amazing coverage. I might have done two coats if my nail line wasn't going to be covered with nail art, just to ensure that it was fully opaque, but honestly this is a polish that you can definitely get away with only one coat of.

I really wanted to hold myself back from going overboard with this design because I really did just want a simple flock of bats tip. I actually considered layering a white or light grey underneath the black stamping layer for a little bit more definition, but I ultimately decided that I didn't want to actually have too much definition. I feel like just applying the scattering flock of bats image to all of my nails in black makes the overall look a little bit more subtle - like it's definitely bats but from a distance it's a little bit more ambiguous.

Once I was happy with my stamping, I sealed it in with a nail art top coat and then followed with a quick dry glossy top coat for shine and volume. And voila!

In the sort of sea of really complicated Halloween designs, I like this one that keeps it simple and a little more subtle - if you can call a red glitter bomb base with intense black stamping subtle, which I do. If you haven't checked out Starrily's polishes yet, I highly recommend giving them a look. The quality on literally every shade that I've tried in every formula and finish have just been absolutely immaculate. Here in Canada, they are available from NailStuff.ca and as I said above, I am an affiliate with them, so if you're a new customer you can use code TRYSH for 10% off your first order!
