NAIL ART: Periwinkle Abstract Dry Brush Nail Art

by - January 10, 2022

For our January #CBBxManiMonday theme this year, we went with Blue & Purple which was inspired by the Pantone 2022 Color Of The Year - Very Peri. Periwinkle is such an interesting color because it does sit really perfectly between a blue and a purple and I actually found, as I was going through my collection, that I didn't have many shades that I really felt like fit into the Periwinkle category, but then as I had a bit of a lightbulb moment and the design for today's mani came together really, really quickly in my head and then on my nails.

The polish that jumped into my head lightbulb style when I was thinking about periwinkle polish is Cirque Colors' Cool Blast. Described as a "light blue-lilac jelly with dazzling iridescent flakes", this is actually listed as a Periwinke Blue on the Cirque website, so I feel pretty good about the idea. I absolutely adore this polish and I really think that those iridescent flakes, which in a lot of lights come through really, really pink, really push this even further into the periwinkle color family. It's also just... stunning. I love this polish, and really all of the Cirque jelly polishes with iridescent flakes that I've tried, so I highly recommend it if you're looking for a periwinkle indie polish to celebrate the color of the year this year.

For this mani, I applied two coats of Cool Blast to all of my nails and let them dry down.

I knew that I wanted to use this stamping plate from KADS that features a lot of images that sort of start to disintegrate into dots, but I wanted to add some contrast and interest first before going in with my stamping, so I decided to add some really soft, subtle corner drybrushing to each of my nails. I alternated the placement of the drybrushing to opposite corners of the nail using a white stamping polish, which I think worked beautifully. Next I went in with my stamping in black. I knew that I wanted to have a different stamped image on each nail and I really, really wanted to use the stag image for my accent nail, so I kept it sort of simple using different leafy images for the rest of my nails. I also played with the placement of the stamping so that each nail was distinctly different, as I tend to do.

Once I was happy with the design, I sealed it in with a nail art top coat before finishing with a generous layer of glossy top coat. And voila!

Like I said, if you're looking for a periwinkle indie polish, I definitely think that Cool Blast is one worth checking out.
