NAIL ART: Graphic Abstract Layered Stamping Nails

by - February 28, 2022

Lately I've definitely felt really inspired to create layered stamping designs, using combinations of small images to fill the nail and create various abstract and graphic designs. It occurred to me over the weekend, though, that it could be cool to try doing something like that using full coverage images in a sort of patchwork style design. I'll definitely admit that I sort of winged it on this one using a new-to-me stamping plate as well as a stunning polish that I recently picked up from PPU, but I'm actually really thrilled with how it turned out.

Since we're on the last week of our Pink & Red theme for February's #CBBxManiMondays, I figured it was the perfect time to use Alchemy Lacquer's Spice Spice Baby, which was featured in January's Spice & Condiment themed Polish Pickup. I've only tried a handful of polishes from Alchemy so far, but I've really, really loved all of them and have enjoyed their formulas over all. Spice Spice Baby is described as a lilac toned pink jelly base loaded with red to gold to green shimmer, holo micro flakes and holo flakes and it is SO PRETTY. It walks a really cool line where it's both cool and warm toned at the same time and I think it gives a really cool effect.

For this mani, I applied two coats of Spice Spice Baby to all of my nails and let them dry down before moving on to my stamping.

I recently picked up the Lina Nail Art Make Your Mark 12 Stamping Plate and this really seemed like the perfect time to grab for it along with stamping polishes in white, purpley taupe, and burgundy. When choosing the images, I wanted to go with two distinctly different images that still had balance, so I chose a sort of scribbled lines image and a scattered dots image to start. I decided to place the images at an angle on the nails and I played with an changed the placement for each nail so that I would get a different look. Once I was finished the two larger images, I chose two different small images to layer on top to bring some contrast and a little bit more punch at the corners of the nails.

Once I was happy with my stamping, I cleaned up the edges and then floated a quick dry glossy top coat over the nails. I skipped the nail art top coat this time around and ultimately regretted it because I did end up with some smudging. However, it was pretty subtle, so it's all good. Voila!
