NAIL ART: Muted Graphic Geometric Abstract Nails

by - February 25, 2022

I'm really having a whole moment of layered stamping at the moment, I must say. And not necessarily in the way that a lot of people think of layered stamping, with images that are intended to be layered to create a specific design. I'm much more interested in sort of creating my own design and filling my nails with a bunch of different images and I've found that I've had really good luck with stamping plates from KADS, which tend to have a lot of smaller images that you can use to create different designs. For today's mani, I used one of those KADS Stamping Plates along with a few of their stamping polishes and I'm kind of obsessed with how it turned out.

When I went into this mani, I knew that I wanted to keep it sort of muted and almost a little bit desaturated and I also knew that I wanted to have a matte finish. It really was those two elements that had me grabbing for the two polishes that I used as my base - both available from NailStuff.ca, with whom I am an affiliate.

If you haven't tried out the créme polishes from Dimension Nails yet, I highly, highly recommend checking them out. They have a beautiful spectrum of colors and every single one I've tried has been absolutely stunning. For this mani, I grabbed for Vegan Gains**, which is a really perfectly soft dove grey in a super pigmented, creamy formula. I love this polish and like so many of the Dimension Nails crémes, it is a one coater, so for this mani I applied one coat to all of my nails. Next, I grabbed for Starrily's Unicorn, which is an iridescent flakie topper with a rainbow of different colors represented in it. It's a stunner and, in my opinion, an absolute must have if you're someone who likes a flakie topper. I also applied one fairly generous coat of Unicorn to all of my nails.

For the stamping, I knew I wanted to keep everything sort of generally cool toned and, as I said above, somewhat muted. I started by grabbing a white stamping polish and applying the same, more dense image to all of my nails, playing around with the direction and placement to get a different look to each nail. To pair with that grey and white base, I decided to use a smoky, desaturated teal and a sort of ashy mauve. Alternating those two colors, I then applied the smaller cluster of triangles image to all of my nails, again playing around with the direction and placement. Finally, I alternated with the opposite color and applied smaller images to each nail with a mind towards size and placement to fill the nail but not overwhelm and get too busy or muddled.

Once I was happy with my stamping, I sealed it in with a layer of nail art top coat and then, once that was dry, I went in with my matte top coat to take down the shine. And voila!

I really do love how the images on this plate layer. I honestly used so many images for this mani, but everything really did come out really cohesive and a lot but not too much - hopefully, anyway. It's not too much for me, but sometimes I'm a kitchen sink kind of girl so who knows. Anyway, I love this and I highly, highly recommend literally all of the products I used to create this mani.
