NAIL ART: Berry & Blue Abstract Modified French Mani

by - May 13, 2022

Even casual readers of this blog will not be the least bit surprised that I've got another abstract mani here today - I'm currently obsessed. I do try, though, to keep each mani I post here from being too samey, though I do think there are some elements that are getting a lot of play across different mani's. One thing I had yet to try was a French style abstract mani and it took a little bit of brainstorming before I landed on what I wanted to do with the design, but I'm absolutely smitten with how it turned out.

The color story for this mani really did start with the two brighter stamping polishes that I ended up using to create the tip design. While trying to decide what I wanted to do, I was pulling out random stamping polishes looking for inspiration and I ended up grabbing C12 Purplish Red, which I would have named Raspberry if I had been in the naming room, and 004 Orchid, which is somewhere between periwinkle and cornflower blue for me. There was something about these two colors that I knew could look gorgeous together, so I went from there.

When it comes to a sheer base for a French mani, there are a few shades in my collection that are go to's depending on what tone I want in that sheer base, but for this one I wanted a really classic milky pink so I grabbed for OPI's Baby, Take A Vow and applied one even coat to all of my nails. This polish is perfect for this because it has a little bit more coverage than some of the other options, really bringing that milky vibe, with that pink providing more undertone than actual color - if that makes sense.

For the stamping, I grabbed for the Nicole Diary L36 Stamping Plate for this mani. If you're looking for one abstract stamping plate for your collection, this is a really good option because it's an XL plate with a really wide selection of images to make the possibilities of what you can do with it pretty endless. For this mani, I started by using two of the sort of blob images to create my tip. I started with the blue and applied that to one side of each nail tip and then I went in with the berry shade and applied that to the other side of the nail tip, being sure to overlap a little to create an almost scalloped sort of look. Next I went in and added the sort of scribbled looking curved lines using a large circle image, alternating with corner I applied the image to. Finally, of course, I wanted to add some speckles so I alternated between two different images - one smaller and one larger - to apply to the opposite side of the nail from the scribbled images.

Once I was happy with my stamping, I sealed it in with a nail art top coat and then finished with a generous later of quick dry glossy top coat for shine and volume. And voila!

I swear, I'm just having so much fun at the moment making different abstract nail designs and it really does feel like a bottomless pit of possibilities for what I could do. I also really, really like a modified French mani and I love how this version of that turned out. It feels quite fun and playful without being too much - though, don't get me wrong, I am very comfortable with too much as well!
