HALLOWEEN NAIL ART: Bright & Playful Cute Zombie Nails

by - October 21, 2022

I have quite a few Halloween stamping plates, I'll admit. I'm always drawn to them over pretty much any other holiday plate so I tend to sort of collect them, but this year the plate that has definitely gotten the most use for me personally is the Manitude x Too Cute To Spook plate. If you've been following this marathon of Halloween nails, you'll recognize the vibe of this plate from previous mani's. Today's mani actually took me some thinking and an assist from another stamping plate to come together in my head, but I've fallen madly in love with it!

Full disclosure, this is my second go at this mani. The color story was pretty different on the first try and I really did like it, but the base polish (a stunning deep purple) bled like absolute mad and I really had no choice but to try it again. The color story I ended up going with definitely skewed much more bright and playful on this second go and I think it really does stem from the base polish I chose. Good Morning Lollipop 2.0 from Garden Path Lacquers is this stunning turquoise base packed full of iridescent flakes with a really warm pink to gold lean. I felt like this polish would really vibe with the pink that I wanted to use for the brains and I went from there.

To go along with that turquoise base, I decided to go with a really bright pink stamping polish and these sort of oozy images from the Born Pretty Halloween-L011 stamping plate and then keep the reverse stamping fill really simple with a shades of pink and gray.

So to put together the mani, I started by applying two coats of my base polish to all of my nails and letting those dry down while I did the fill on my reverse stamping. I like to fill right on my stamper head and I use a combination of a dual ended dotting tool and a fairly small nail art brush so that I can get the fill I'm looking for. (Also, on the zombie image for this mani, I decided I didn't love the eyes in the original image, so I removed them for the fill and then added different eyes from the same plate once the image was placed on my nail.)

Once my base was dry, I applied the full cover oozy images to my outer nails, alternating the direction to add visual interest. Next, for the middle nails, I started by applying a thin layer of sticky base and letting that dry down before applying the oozy images and the reverse stamping. I like to apply both the fresh stamping and the dried down reverse stamping over that sticky base just because if I do the fresh stamping first I find that the sticky base coat can smudge it.

Once I was happy with the overall design, I sealed everything in with a nail art top coat and then finished with a matte top coat to bring down the shine. And voila!

I have to say, it almost feels audacious that these particular images are this cute - but they really are so adorable that it hurts. I find myself wanting a plate like this for every major holiday - just the most adorable possible versions of everthing. Who knows... maybe that's in the Manitude future! Fingers crossed!
