CHRISTMAS NAIL ART: Festive Holo Gradient Snowflake Nails

by - December 16, 2023

In December of 2020, I put together what has become one of my favorite nail art designs I've ever done. It's one that has sparked countless different versions for various holidays and themes and it's one that I've brought back a different version of every Christmas since. While I did consider it, I couldn't go and break tradition this year, so I decided to make this year's version green and not overthink it. It's just such a classic at this point - it had to be done!

While my beloved bottle of OPI's Robots Are Forever is on its very last legs, there was no way that I could do this mani without the base polish that I've always used for it if I still had it on hand. It was pretty thick and doesn't perform quite the way it used to, but it still definitely made for a beautiful base.

For the gradient tip, I decided to go with green this year since it's the only traditionally Christmasy color that I haven't used for one of these mani's yet. I decided on Bluebird Lacquer's The Ryan King 2.0 because the green base is really rich and it's just packed with beautiful holo. I used my technique of applying one swipe of the colored polish with a couple of swipes of clear polish to blend and did three passes of sponging to get to the opacity I was looking for.

For the tips, I like to keep the design really, really simple and straightforward by applying two snowflakes in white and two snowflakes in black. I use the Nicole Diary 120 Stamping Plate, which is definitely one I think everyone could benefit from having in their collection if it's still available - I know Nicole Diary has discontinued a lot of their stamping plates, but I really hope this isn't one of them because it's such a staple for the holidays/winter. Anyway, I just choose two snowflakes that are next to each other, pick them up on my stamper and apply them at a diagonal and then repeat the process with the other color.

Once I was happy with my design, I sealed everything in with a nail art top coat and then finished with a generous layer of glossy top coat for shine. And voila!

I'm not going to lie, I think I might retire this design after this year because I've officially done the same basic design so many times at this point, but it's just such a staple and I love it so much every time I do it that I might change my mind on that next year. Either way, I'm in love with this design and love how it turns out every single time!

Check back every weekday in December for new Holiday/Christmas themed nails and be sure to head over to @pblnails for video tutorials for every single one of the designs I post here. And who knows, maybe some bonus mani's as well!

Thanks for reading!
