Prairie Beauty

I have been so, so impressed with the quality and performance of the Kokie Cosmetics polishes that I've tried so far, so I was really curious when I saw that they were releasing a new range of plant based polishes how they would hold up. They were kind enough to send over 6 shades from their Green Polish range and I was really eager to try them out on my nails - and was overall really impressed with their performance.

Once I was finished swatching the 6 shades of the Kokie Professional Nail Polish* that they sent over for me to share with you guys, I really wanted to put together some nail art using a few of them, and I had a few ideas that I rolled around before landing on this one that just stuck in my head. Though I've seen people do this particular sponging technique before, I'm pretty sure that I had never tried it myself - and now I find that I have been remiss because I love it so much!

I've been curious about Kokie Cosmetics for a while now, so I was SUPER stoked to hear that their nail polishes were going to finally be available here in Canada at Sally Beauty and I was definitely in when I got a chance to try out some of the shades for myself. It's always exciting to me when new formulas of nail polish, especially ones that live in the under $10 a bottle range, become available in stores locally. I only have 6 shades to share with you guys today, but there are definitely some different finishes in this bunch, and I definitely hope to share more in the future.

I have to admit that I sometimes forget just how much I love doing gel polish at home. It took me a long time to get a lamp and start doing it, but there really is nothing better for a quick, long wearing mani. Because I change the nail art on my left hand pretty frequently, I don't often do gel polish on that hand, but for my dominant hand and my toes I absolutely love a gel mani. The first brand of gel I ever tried at home is ASP Soak Off Gel* and they have always performed beautifully for me, so I was super excited to get the opportunity to swatch a bunch of shades from their line.

One great thing about getting to review products is that there are times that I get to try out things that I never would have thought to try. In fact, there have been a few times that I've straight up fallen in love with something that I've walked by dozens of times in stores before. When I got the opportunity to try out ASP Long Wear Nail Polish*, I was crossing my fingers that this would be one of those situations. Though I've used and loved a few of the ASP Gel Polishes, I hadn't even pulled the trigger on picking up any of their lacquers from my local Sally, so I was eager to try them and optimistic about the formulas.

So, how did they work out? Keep reading for more!

Ever since I was in high school and I basically had to beg my mom to let me dye my hair even with a very subtle, rinse out hair dye, I've wanted brightly coloured hair. During my twenties, I had pretty much every hair colour that is naturally occurring, and a few that aren't, but I never actually went for it with the brights. I think it was the popularity of the much less terrifying pastel shades that actually finally got me to make my way into brightly coloured hair. I started with pastel pink done in my hair dresser's chair, which was an incredibly long process of bleaching followed by colouring, but I immediately got the bug. Because bright fashion colours really do fade quickly and I don't want to be heading in to the hair dresser every couple of weeks to have my hair touched up, I decided to give it a try at home using products that I grabbed down at my local Sally Beauty Supply. I went with the ION Color Brilliance Brights in Magenta, hoping for a vibrant pink shade. So, how did it go?
