TOP 3 FALL MUST-HAVES! + Honorable Mentions
Like so many other people, Fall is probably my favorite season - even though on the prairies it usually means that it'll only be a few weeks until there is snow on the ground and temperatures that make getting out of bed in the morning a hell of a lot less appealing. In the beginning of the season, the colder temperatures feel like a fair trade for the makeup and fashion changes that we all get to put into effect. Sure, it's a little sad to pack away all the flip flops, but getting to trade them out for a favorite pair of boots is a little bit of excitement.

Cozy Oversized Sweaters
When I find a great sweater that combines looking good with feeling comfortable and warm, I feel like it's a huge win. For me, a perfect sweater is usually in a neutral that's easily paired with a skinny jeans or leggings that I can still wear to work without feeling like a grub, and when I find one it always seems to come home with me. This sweater from JOE FRESH ticked all the boxes pretty much as soon as I saw it, but I was sold as soon as I put it on. It's just slouchy enough to feel comfortable without being too much and the design of it manages to actually do a decently flattering job without actually skimming the body at all. Pretty impressive for a sweater that could easily have gone far too boxy for cuteness. Whatever sweater you choose, though, there's no regret in buying a sweater that will keep you cozy right through to spring.
Jewel-toned Eyeshadows
While I'm not a huge fan of putting too many rules on which colours are appropriate for each season, I always find myself shelving the jewel-tones for the summer and pulling them out again only when fall hits. One of my favorite palettes is the Sonia Kashuk Jewel Of An Eye palette, which contains 12 beautiful, fall appropriate shades that can create endless looks. However, since that was Limited Edition for Holiday 2013, I felt like it was a good idea to mention a smaller palette that is similar in style. This 6 pan palette contains some beautiful jewel-toned shades, including my two favorites - a deep, flattering purple and a warm copper. Honestly, though, I think any shadow that hits on that deeply pigmented, bright but still maybe a little burnt shade is perfect for this time of year. The way I see it, the leaves are changing colour to be deeper and warmer so it makes sense to make your eyeshadow do the same.
Fall Scented Candles
I don't burn a lot of candles in the summer, whether it be because the cast more warmth than one might want in the hotter summer months or because nothing smells better than fresh summer air, but once fall hits I instantly want to pull out my favorite warm, seasonal candles and get to fill the house with the scent of them. While I also quite like the scent of candles that are reminiscent of warm, baked treats, I'm always more drawn to those scents that remind me a little bit more of a man's cologne. Marshmallow Fireside is one of those candles that Bath And Body Works can't seem to keep on the shelf - and for good reason. Described as "toasted marshmallows and sumptuous vanilla cream blend with the comforting aroma of rich smoldering woods", this candle definitely brings in that warm, fiery scent but takes the edge off with a subtle sweetness that gives it amazing balance. Two others that I really love for this time of year are Cinnamon & Clove Buds and Black Pepper Bergamot.
Honorable Mentions...
Like with eyeshadow, I don't like to adhere to any set of colour rules when it comes to my nail polish and several times over the summer I was found wearing what would generally be considered a fall shade... But this is because fall shades are amazing and should never be officially put on the shelf. I say "berry and fire" because there's really a great range of shades that are just perfect for the colder months. My personal favorites when it comes to fall nail polish are the same as my favorites when it comes to eyeshadows - Plum and Copper. However, I feel like any deep berry or golden shade is perfect for this time of year. A few of my favorites are pictured above, but I also really like golden olive type shades and chocolate shades with vibrant golden shimmer. As far as I'm concerned, summer is for nail art and fall is for sticking to rich, deep solid colours.
Brewt
I'm a coffee drinker all year 'round, I'll tell you that, so you can't say I don't love a hot beverage in the sweltering heat of summer. That said, when the nights start to get cooler, I'm inevitably drawn to a nice cup of tea in the evening. More and more, the options of different teas are growing, and the truly interesting ones always seem to be loose leaf teas... which can be a bit of a pain if you don't have an infuser. I am officially anti-tea ball, since they never seem to get it done the way that I want them to. Last winter, my boyfriend and I decided - after enjoying a great many teas brewed in Brewts at our favorite breakfast spot - that we absolutely had to invest in a pair. And let me tell you... So, so worthwhile. Whatever your tea preferences, these babies are absolutely worth the purchase. They're dishwasher safe and easily disassemble for thorough cleaning, and I've never had an issue of tea particles sneaking through into my cup (which is the reason for my hatred of a tea ball, honestly.) If you're a tea drinker or you want to be a tea drinker and you don't have one of these (or one of the other versions, since I'm sure they're swell also) you really should consider picking one up.
So there you have it... My absolute fall must haves and a couple of extras... that probably should have been in the original list, since a Top 5 is > a Top 3. OH WELL!
Happy fall, everyone!
XO.
