REVIEW: NYC Expert Last Lip Color - NEW SHADES
When it comes to lipsticks, there are some real gems in the drugstore. I have a massive collection of lip products and it seems like I can never have enough. Lately, I've been sticking to a lot of more neutral, wearable shades because that seems to make the most sense for my day to day life. Once upon a time, I was all about bold red and berry shades, but I've definitely transitioned into softer shades that are easier to wear. Sometimes with lipsticks, I find that a swatch never gives me a true idea of how a lipstick is going to look on my actual lips, so it can be a lot more appealing to buy more affordable lipsticks that won't smart as much if I find that they don't work for me. Enter the NYC Expert Last Lip Colors. These are almost scarily affordable, available at Walmart for under $2 a piece. I've had a couple of these in my collection for a while, but I found that I wasn't wearing the shades I'd picked up very much at all, so when I saw that there were some new shades and finishes on offer, I couldn't resist picking up a couple to try out.
Keep reading for a closer look and my thoughts.

NYC New York Color Expert Last Lip Color in 440 Creamy Caramel
I admit, I almost didn't buy this one because I was afraid that it was going to come off too brown on my lips. The sort of browny caramel shades may be on trend at the moment, but I find that they don't suit my complexion or my style at all. However, I did take a chance on this shade (like I said, these are affordable enough that I don't have to be too concerned if I don't love it) and I'm so glad that I did. This is a very beige nude shade that is light enough and carries enough rosiness that it doesn't look brown on my lips. Instead, it gives a really pretty neutral look that is perfect for every day wear with a lot of different looks.
NYC New York Color Expert Last Lip Color in 449 Creamy Mauve
This shade was almost completely sold out at my Walmart, which really isn't surprising. This is one of the new lipsticks that claim to have a satin matte finish, and since matte lips are so on trend at the moment I think people will definitely be gravitating towards those finishes. In the swatch photos, it's reading a little bit brighter and more purple toned than it does in real life. On my lips, it's definitely a mid-toned pink with slightly more subtle blue undertones. It's a very pretty shade that I think a lot of people will really like.
I'm a little surprised by how I feel about these lipsticks, because I felt pretty certain that I was going to love Creamy Mauve and, at best, be okay with Creamy Caramel, but I feel exactly the opposite. I love the Creamy Caramel shade and feel like I'll get a lot of wear out of it, while I think Creamy Mauve will be one that I'll only wear with very specific looks and mostly in the summer. Overall, though, I'm not disappointed with either one of these shades.
Let's talk formula... These lipsticks are so damn good for the price point. While the Creamy Mauve shade claimed to be a satin matte finish, I would put both of these firmly into the créme finish category. Both carry some shine on the lips, but aren't what I would call glossy. Application and pigmentation on both of these lipsticks are pretty on point. They apply creamy and smooth, with full colour and coverage. They're incredibly comfortable on the lips and I would go so far as to compare the texture and feel of them to my BITE Beauty Luminous Créme Lipsticks - which is a huge compliment coming from me, as those are my absolute favorite lipstick formula. Wear time is actually surprisingly good and even once they do dry down and lose that sheen, they still maintain some color on the lips while remaining lightweight and comfortable.
Another note I have... these two shades, when worn mixed together, create an absolutely gorgeous mauvey nude shade that is to die for. Just saying.
One thing to note is that these lipsticks DO have a scent. That being said, I can't actually tell you what they smell like other than to say that the scent is a vaguely chemically fruity floral type scent that is not obnoxious, but is definitely noticeable when you apply it. I know that scents can be a sticking point for some, so I figured it bore mentioning.
All in all, I'm incredibly impressed with these lipsticks, especially at under $2 a bullet, and I have every intention of picking up a few more shades for my collection. NYC definitely has a winner on their hands with this one.
There are some more new products being added to the NYC line for Spring and I'm definitely going to pick a few more up to try out, so look for those in the future!
