REVIEW: COLAB Dry Shampoo in RIO

by - March 17, 2015

I was really, really, really excited to see the COLAB Dry Shampoo on the shelf at Winners after having heard so much about it. As you all know, I'm a complete junkie for dry shampoo and am almost always willing to try a new one. I love Ruth Crilly's blog and Youtube channel - A Model Recommends - and I really tend to trust her opinions on things because carries herself with a kind of knowing confidence about products, so something with her name on it was definitely something I wanted to try. I had heard nothing but good things about the Sheer Invisible version of her dry shampoo and was dying to try it... but then I accidentally picked up the volume extreme instead. Whoops!

Either way, keep reading for my thoughts on this product!

I chose the Rio tropical scent, because admittedly those are some of my favorite types of scents and one of my top dry shampoos is the tropical scent from Batiste. Made sense to me. I do actually quite like the smell of this product. It isn't at all like the Batiste that I love so much, but it still has a nice scent that I don't mind putting it my hair at all. I'm curious to know what the other versions smell like, though, since they're all assigned an International city that they are said to be influenced by.

Here's where it all goes wrong, friends... When it comes to how it performs, I don't like this product at all. I don't mind a little bit of white cast with my dry shampoos, usually you just have to work with it a little and you can get rid of it. Not with this one. This is like dumping a bag of flour on your head and because of the texture of it, it's really hard to work through and thus far I haven't been able to get the white cast to disappear. How embarrassing to be catch your reflection and run your fingers through your hair only to find that you have a Rogue stripe in your hair. Not cute.

The other thing I don't like about this product is how it makes my hair feel. I use dry shampoos to make my hair look and feel cleaner... this does not do that at all. Instead, I feel like this makes my hair feel dirty and raggety. It does work in a similar way to a volumizing powder product or a texturizing spray, leaving a bit of tackiness and hold on the hair, but it just makes my hair look and feel terrible in the process. I literally can't just brush it out and wear it down after I've used this product. It requires me to wear my hair up.

Overall, I'm sure you've deduced that I'm not a fan and I will not repurchase this product. I won't even finish this bottle, because I struggle to make myself use it. However, after hearing so many good reviews of the Sheer Invisible formula from COLAB, I'm still interested in picking up a bottle of that and trying it out. I'll review that here for you once that happens!
