UNBOXING: Birchbox April 2015

by - April 21, 2015

Birchbox time! It's been a great month for subscription boxes and this is the last one I'll be unboxing until next month. I got all my boxes within a 24 hour period this month, so I got hit with a lot of new products all at once - Let's be real, I'm certainly not complaining. This was also the month of really beautiful boxes, which started with my Glossybox and ending with this month's Birchbox!

I'm done with adieuing, so let's look at what was in the box!

Beaver Professions Hydro Nutritive Series Shampoo & Repairing Conditioner - Value $8.23
"You don’t have to go to extremes to repair dry, damaged hair. In fact, when it comes to reviving your strands, gentle is your best bet. This mild cleanser uses moisturizing avocado oil and aloe vera extracts to repair and rebuild hair, leaving it smoother, softer and shinier. Keep the peace with this moisturizing conditioner. It deeply nourishes and strengthens dry, frizzy, or damaged hair, leaving it softer, smoother, and healthier looking."

I lumped these two products together because I feel like that's the best way to present them. I'm actually looking forward to trying these out. I like the claims and the ingredients, I really like that they list the pH on the Shampoo bottle, and nourishing products are definitely what I need for my coloured, somewhat damaged hair.

Bee Kind Shower Gel - Value $2.38
"This richly foaming cleanser comes infused with nourishing honey, organic calendula, and not a small amount of eco-friendly good karma. So lather up, soak in the fresh lemon verbena scent, and then go ahead and pat yourself on the back."

Not gonna lie, I'm kinda sold on this on the packaging alone. Argyle and a cute little bee? Check. However, I'm also really into the inclusion of honey in my skin care and body products, so that's a big plus for me, and one of my favorite scents for body products is lemongrass. I'm working through a couple of other shower gels at the moment, but this one jumped right to the top of the must try list.

Méreadesso All-In-One Moisturizer Sample Size - Value $28.00
"Developed by Linda Stephenson, a former beauty exec with a science-based background, this moisturizer streamlines your skincare routine and enriches skin with natural enzymes and antioxidants. This travel-size multitasker also functions as a makeup primer, serum, and eye cream, so it’s perfect for tossing in your carry on—with plenty of room to spare."

I feel like skincare companies are really coming up with great ideas on how to make a foil sample actually usable. This sample has a plastic cap in the back that flips up to dispense the product and then flips back down to reseal the packaging, which makes this a sample that I can actually get some good use out of. Also, it really would be perfect for travelling because it's flat and slim, but contains enough product to get you through a trip. Looking forward to trying!

Jelly Pong Pong Glow Getter Luminizer Gel - Value $16.00
"This weightless gel highlighter makes that last part a total breeze. It’s oil-free and made with 80 percent water, which gives it an incredibly lightweight texture that also won’t clog pores. The pearlescent pigments in the formula give skin a subtle, luminous shimmer. Better still, this gel is hypoallergenic and free of mineral oil, phthalates, triclosan, and sulfates."

Unfortunately, this isn't a big winner for me. It has a pretty nice texture, I'll give it that, and I think this would look really beautiful on deeper skintones, but this just isn't a shade for me. Also, I'm discovering more and more that I'm not typically a liquid highlight kind of a girl (unless we're talking about the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors, which are pretty much life.) Anyway, I think I might gift this to one of my more tanned friends for their summer highlighting pleasure.

Total Cost: $14.95 (with shipping)
Total Value: $54.61

Not bad, right? While this didn't take the favorite spot this month, like it did last month, I'm pretty happy with this box and looking forward to trying out most of the products in it. Also, the pretty floral box is going to become some prime storage for me, which is always a win!

Thanks for reading and check back next month for another Birchbox Unboxing!

If you're interested in joining Birchbox, I would love if you used my referral link! Birchbox is a monthly subscription service where for $14.95 a month (including shipping) you'll receive a box filled with 4-5 full or sample sized  beauty products. Birchbox also has a great points system that basically allows you to get $5 back each month to spend in their store simply by reviewing the items you received. Since Birchbox came to Canada, I have to tell you I've been really happy with all of my boxes and think it's definitely worth a try!
