UNBOXING: Julep Maven Modern Beauty Box October 2015

by - October 13, 2015

It's been months since I've done a Julep unboxing and I suspect this might be my last one. Honestly, it just hasn't felt like the right subscription service for me for a while, no matter how much I absolutely love their products. A big part of this is the price. With the exchange rate being what it is at the moment, it's hard to justify what the cost is now for Canadians.  Also, being that I'm not nearly as into nail polish as I was when I first signed up for Julep, it just doesn't make sense anymore. This month, however, they released newly formulated blushes and eyeshadow sticks and it seemed like a great time to make use of some of the Maven Points that I had saved on my account to grab an add on, so I went for it.

Keep reading to take a look at my box as well as the add on I chose!

As I said above, I was really drawn to this month's Modern Beauty box, which included the newly formulated Your Happy Look Pore-Minimizing Blush and the Eyeshadow 101 Crème-to-Powder Eyeshadow Stick. Are we surprised? Of course we're not! I also decided to finally use up some Maven points and order the Blush Brush, which I've been lusting after for ages but hadn't yet jumped on. It was only 1000 points, which I figured was a steal - especially if I'm going to be calling it a day on Julep.

Your Happy Look Pore Minimizing Blush in Clover Pink
A groundbreaking blush that minimizes complexion imperfections. Your Happy Look's soft, mineral-based formula means your brush grabs an AMAZING amount of pigment (you only need one gentle tap!), so you get incredible application with less makeup on your skin, for a truly healthy glow.

In the pictures on the website, this shade appeared to be a slightly deeper mauve toned blush, but in person it's more a pale to mid-toned blue based pink with a very pretty sheen. I have one of the blushes in the old formula, but it's a little shimmerier than my usual taste, so this is much more my style. It kicks up a little powder when you dip a brush into it, but it's actually a really beautiful blush formula on the cheeks. This shade gives a really natural, healthy-looking flush to the skin and I'm really, really happy with it.

Eyeshadow 101 Crème-to-Powder Eyeshadow Stick in Orchid Shimmer
A crème-to-powder shadow stick on top with a smudger on the other end. Expect huge color payoff and crease-proof, stay-all-day power.

I think I was expecting this to be a little more purple - but I'm so glad it's not. This shade is absolutely beautiful. I would say it's a slightly coppery burgundy type shade that is pretty much perfect for fall and will definitely help bring out the green hints in my eyes. In the swatch, it's really creamy and pigmented.

Unfortunately, my shadow was broken in the tube, but I contacted Customer Service and will be getting a replacement soon, so I look forward to giving it a good test to see how it wears.

Blush Brush
Designed for specific use with Glow Blush, the angled bristle design hugs the contours of your face--a natural pairing for a beautiful finish.

This brush is perfection. I prefer an angled brush to apply my blush, so this ticks that box, and it also happens to have incredibly soft bristles and a weighted handle that gives really good hand feel. Honestly, this brush feels incredibly solid and well  made and I have a feeling I'm going to get good use out of it for a long time.

Honestly, the only thing that I can complain about was the broken eyeshadow, but these things happen and I still think the shade and my initial thoughts on the formula are pretty great. Of course, it's when I'm thinking about ending my subscription that I get an absolutely perfect-for-me box, right? Of course. Still, it's an expense I can't justify so I'm going to say goodbye to Julep... at least for now! This has nothing to do with the quality of Julep products, because I really have had fantastic luck with the brand in the past. If you're looking for one product above all the others try from Julep, I HIGHLY recommend the Bare Face Cleansing Oil. Seriously. Get it. Right not.

Oh... There was also Candy Corn in this month's box. I have the most morbid affection for candy corn, I swear, but I was pretty happy about the inclusion. And yes, I did eat them.

Thanks for reading!
