I love when it's new essence products time, don't you? I feel like there's always some great little gems with every release the brand makes - be it seasonal new permanent products or those adorable trend editions. When the time comes that these new products are set to start coming out, I turn into a product stalker. One of the new products that I was looking forward to this season was the new Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara. Like everyone else, it seems, I am a little bit obsessed with brow products and I'm constantly on the lookout for affordable products that measure up to my higher end favorites, so this was definitely a must try for me. I meant to review this sooner, but I've been using it since the first time I saw it in my local Shoppers, so this review is very, very certain!
So how did it measure up? Keep reading to find out!
The packaging on this is pretty much an exact dupe for Benefit Gimme Brow. When I lay the 2 tubes next to each other, they're pretty much exactly the same size, shape, and colour. It's pretty clear that this is Essence's answer to that product - which happens to be one of my favorites. One significant difference in the two products is the shape of the brush. While the Gimme Brow has a small, cone shaped brush, this one is slightly longer and much more of a straight up and down brush. For me, I actually like this brush a little bit better because it lays down the product a little more quickly while still keeping the same precision.
I don't really find that this product builds as much brow as some of the other brow gels that I've used in the last couple of years that have a lot of fibres in it. I think that this might have some fibres in it, but it isn't nearly as dense with them. I actually don't mind that this doesn't build a lot of brows, because I prefer to use a tinted brow gel after I've filled my brows in with a pencil or powder to give hold and a little bit of texture to my brows. For those two things, this works really, really well.
This product is available in two shades. I chose the lighter of the two, because I tend to find that darker brow gels can make my brows look a little bit too stark against my fair skin. I think this shade actually works really well for the depth of my brow colour and ends up giving me that texture to the look of my brows without darkening them at all. I would say that this would work well for anyone with blonde to medium brown brows, but if you've got darker brows or a deeper skin tone, I would recommend going with the deeper shade.
I have to say that I'm really impressed with this brow gel and pretty much thrilled to find a product that holds up to the Benefit Gimme Brow at such an affordable price point. Like I said, I wouldn't call them out and out dupes because the formula is definitely a little different, but this brow gel works perfectly for my personal needs and I will definitely repurchase thing before I go for the much higher price point of the Benefit.
Thanks for reading!
