REVIEW: Riversol Skin Care*

I am a huge fan of supporting Canadian brands, because I feel like there's an emerging beauty industry coming out of Canada that doesn't necessarily get enough attention. When I got the opportunity to try a luxury skin care brand out of Vancouver that was developed by a dermatologist with 30 years of experience in the field, I was more than excited to give it a try. I had the opportunity to try two products - the Foaming Gel Cleanser* and the Daily Moisturizing Cream* and I've given them a significant testing period and I'm ready to let you guys know what I thought of them!

One thing that really stood out for me about the brand was the premise that Dr. Rivers, the doctor who developed the line, did so with a focus on sensitive skin and avoiding the fillers and other ingredients that have a tendency to cause unwanted reactions in sensitive skin. More and more I'm realizing that the best products I can use on my skin are ones that are designed for sensitive skin because they get the job done without making my skin - for lack of a better word - freak out.

These products also contain an ingredient called Beta-Thujaplicin, or Beta-T. Admittedly, this was an ingredient that was unknown to me before trying these products, so instead of trying to explain it, I'll just show you what Riversol has to say about it:
Beta-T is a derivative from the Pacific Red Cedar Tree and contains anti-biotic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant properties. It is rarely used in skincare due to its cost and difficulty to work with. Dr. Rivers and the formulation chemist devoted three years to creating a formula perfect for his patients

Soothing Foaming Gel Cleanser*:
Our clinical strength gel cleanser is recommended for normal to oily or combination skin types. It works best for people who prefer a light, hypoallergenic cleanser that leaves the skin feeling refreshed and clean. For all ages, all ethnicities.

Core benefits:

  • Gently removes make-up and impurities
  • Stops blemishes and breakouts
  • Relieves irritation and inflammation
  • Improves radiance and texture

You can't see it so well in the photo, but this formula is a gel with a slight milkiness to it. It does foam up, but it's a softer, less dense foam than other foaming cleansers that I've tried. I find that this formula does an amazing job of cleaning my skin and leaving it really feeling thoroughly cleansed without ever feeling stripped or tight. I definitely recommend using this either as a second cleanse in the evening or as a morning cleanser, because it seems silly to waste it on removing makeup when it's such a beautiful formula for actually cleansing the skin.

Of the two products, this is absolutely my favorite and I would actually go so far as to put it in the Top 5 cleansers I've ever used - probably pretty high in the top 5. In the last couple of years, I've really seen how different cleansers effect the overall appearance and behavior of my skin, so I value a great cleanser and I can't say enough good things about this one.

Revitalize Daily Moisturizing Cream*:
Our clinical strength moisturizing cream is recommended specifically for individuals with dry skin. For all ages, all ethnicities.

Core benefits:

  • Instant, deep re-hydration
  • Helps repair your skin’s moisture barrier
  • Relieves irritation and inflammation
  • Improves radiance and texture
  • Reduces redness and flushing

Honestly, I was a little taken aback the first time I tried this. It's a different consistency than any moisturizer I can remember using. It's a thick, rich mousse type texture with a lot of slip that really melts into the skin. Once I got over the texture of it, I found that I really liked it. I find that it does take a minute to really soak into the skin, but once it's absorbed the skin just feels really, really silky without any greasiness left behind. However, I find that in the morning when I wake up I do feel like there's some product on my skin and I definitely need to do a morning cleanse, but my skin is left feeling and looking really hydrated and youthful.

For me, because my skin is normal leaning dry, this might be a little too intensely hydrating for the warmer months, but for someone who's dry all year I think this would be a perfect choice.

Overall, I'm incredibly impressed with both of these products. I think they did their respective jobs incredibly well without ever irritating or overwhelming my skin. If I was only going to recommend one, it would be the cleanser because that's the one that has really blown my mind and that I'm absolutely in love with, but I think the moisturizer is a very solid product for people with dry skin as well.

If you're interested in either these products, in the market for some new high quality skin care, or just interested in supporting Canadian brands, head over to the Riversol website and check out their whole line!
