SUBSCRIPTION: Ipsy July 2016

by - July 20, 2016

I've come to a bit of a conclusion when it comes to how I feel about my Ipsy bag when I first open my Glam Room in comparison to when I actually open the bag. I think that when I first open my Glam Room, I'm a little preoccupied with what I didn't get, so I definitely feel some disappointment, but once I have some distance from that and I actually have the products in my hands I end up feeling differently. I wasn't entirely excited about this month's bag when I opened my Glam Room, but now that I have the products in front of me I'm actually really happy with the curation of this month's bag for me. Anyone else feel this way?

Now, keep reading to take a look at what I got this month!

J.Cat Beauty Perfect Duo Brow Pencil in Dark Brown
Full Size Product - Value $5.20 CAD ($3.99US)

Even though this is a drugstore product, I actually really wanted to get my hands on it so I was glad that it was included in my bag this month. I'm a little annoyed that mine came without a lid on the spooly end, but I usually lose them without two days anyway - and I don't want to be the girl who's complaining to IpsyCare every month, so I'll just deal with it. This isn't necessarily the shade I would have chosen for myself, because even though I have medium brown hair, I don't like my brows to be too dark so I tend to choose an ash brown or a taupe shade, but if I use a light hand I think I can make it work. The texture isn't too creamy, which I like, and I think it's quite buildable. Looking forward to this one!

thrive causemetics Infinity Waterproof Eyeliner in Lauren
Full Size Product - Value $28.67 CAD ($22US)

I'd never heard of this brand, but I love the idea of "cause"metics. From what I can tell from their About Us page, they appear to have a one-for-one business model, where they donate product to a woman in need for every product that is purchased much in the way that TOMS has popularized. I love that idea! The product itself actually seems like it's going to be great. It's really creamy and after I let it set on my arm for less than a minute, there were traces left behind when I tried to remove it with a wipe - always a good sign for a waterproof eyeliner. It also comes with a rubber smudger with a really interesting pointed shape as well as a sharpener on the opposite end. This is another one I'm looking forward to trying.

Organic Surge Daily Care Reviving Eye Gel
10ml Deluxe Size - Value $9.17CAD (£5.38)

Like most skincare products, this is going to be one that I'm going to have to try in order to figure out how I feel about it. I put a little bit on the back of my hand and it sunk in really quickly and left the skin feeling and looking quite smooth, which gives me some hope, but we'll have to see. Of course, I always reserve judgement when it comes to this kind of thing. Still it's 2/3 of a full size product, which is great and means it'll last quite a while, so I'm hopeful that I like it.

PUR Cosmetics Correcting Primer Illuminate & Glow
10ml Deluxe Size - Value $12 CAD ($11US)

This is probably my favorite product in this month's bag - if only because I've been wanting to try this for quite some time but never quite felt like I was ready to make the commitment to a full size bottle of it. This is a peachy golden primer that doesn't seem to add any pigment to the skin but leaves behind a glow with what looks to be little tiny microshimmers when I swatch it on my hand. When first applied, it feels a little bit tacky, which I think will work well under foundation, so I'm hopeful. Either way, this is one that I'm more than happy to try out!

MAKE UP FOR EVER Excessive Lash Mascara
2.5ml Deluxe Size - Value $8.55CAD ($6.90US)

At first, I wasn't particularly excited about this, but I'm actually really looking forward to trying it now - especially since a couple of the high end travel size mascaras I've been using recently are about to be retired. Now, yes, I do have a lot of mascaras in my arsenal that are still completely untouched, but I'm going to bring this one to the front of the line and try it out right away. This looks to be very black and has a traditional bristle brush that is quite small and I feel pretty hopeful that it's really going to get in there and build some serious volume. Fingers crossed!

Total Value: $63.59CAD

You guys... I kind of love this month's actual  bag. The umbrella design I could really take or leave, but I'm a little bit in love with the holographic fabric this bag is made of. It feels really summery to me and I'm definitely going to throw it in my beach bag for the rest of the summer to hold things like hair ties and lip balm!

Overall, I'm really happy with this bag - as I'm sure you can tell by each little dodad I wrote above. I think it's a good selection of products that is distinctly makeup heavy, which is definitely my preference. On top of that, there's no dud product right out of the gate and I'm actually looking forward to trying them all. For me, that's exactly the type of Ipsy bag that I want! Were there a few things I would have liked to swap in? Certainly, but I'm not mad at this bag either.

If you're interested in signing up for Ipsy, it's $10US a month (plus $5US shipping for us Canadian subscribers) and each month you'll get a makeup bag filled with 5 deluxe and full sized beauty products to try out. Also, reviewing your products each month will earn you points which you can then redeem on rewards that are ever changing on the site!

Thanks for reading!
