FAVORITES: August 2016

by - September 07, 2016

Honestly, guys, this has been a really, really good month for beauty for me and it was really hard to actually choose favorites - but I did! This is actually a contrast to last month when I skipped doing a favorites because everything was just a boring routine and I didn't really have anything I wanted to particularly talk about. This time around, I had to reign myself in! In fact, as I look at these photos while I write this, I feel like there's a few things that are missing - so look for honourable mentions in a few of the categories!

Without further adieu, check out what I've been loving for the past month!

L'Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation (Review)
Honestly, I'm genuinely surprised by how much I like this foundation. Some days, when it's really hot or humid outside, it's a little too much for my skin, but on normal days I think it looks absolutely beautiful and lasts really well. I honestly can't wait to see how this plays with my skin come winter, because I think this formula will work beautifully on my drier winter skin. I've been reaching for this one really quite often.

essence Cosmetics Pure NUDE Highlighter
When I first saw this online, I WANTED IT. And then when I saw it on a couple of darker skinned Youtubers and bloggers that I follow, I figured there was no way it was going to work on my skin. Still, I picked it up because... Obviously. I'm actually surprised at how well this works on my skin - as long as I'm bronzing. It doesn't give the brightest glow, but that's actually what I like about it. It definitely gives me glow, but it's in a more natural way that looks more like I'm just luminous than that I'm wearing highlighter, which is my preference. I've been reaching for this really, really consistently.

Honorable Face Mention: Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer (didn't get a full mention because the shade I have isn't quite right for me and I need to get a slightly lighter, slightly cooler toned one.)

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette (Review)
Honestly, I keep finding myself impressed with this palette and reaching for it on days when I absolutely need my eye makeup to look flawless - and stay flawless. Not all of the shades in this palette are perfect, but the shades that I consistently reach for like the crease shades and pops of light for all over the lid, are absolutely stunning. And I swear, that smell makes me smile every single time I open this palette. I have a feeling the rerelease is going to go crazy.

Ardell Adore Trios False Eyelashes
So, the thing is that I'm really, really bad at putting on full strip lashes. I'm getting better, but most of the time I can't be bothered with the time it takes to apply them and get them looking good. Recently, I've been reaching for these trios whenever I want to add a little bam to my lashes because they work absolutely perfectly for that and they're easy as pie to use - and faster than individuals. I actually really like the Kiss trios, possibly better than these ones, but they're a little harder for me to get my hands on and these ones do get the job done.

Doucce Boombastic Lash Volumizing Mascara
I got this mascara in my June Ipsy bag and I really didn't think I was going to like it as much as I do, but it has really impressed me and I've been reaching for it almost every day. This mascara really ticks all the boxes for me. It's super black, gives really good volume with some length, doesn't flake or smudge on me, and has a really easy to use wand that doesn't make a mess all over my eyes. Perfect, right?

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in Dopey
I really didn't think that all of the hype surrounding these lippies could be real, but once I tried them I was pretty much an instant convert. Well, I was a convert a few minutes after I applied it once it set and gave me the almost matte finish that I like without feeling or looking dry on me. These aren't budgeproof but they are really long wearing and I find that they do stop transferring pretty much entirely after about an hour of wear. I would seriously order these in every colour if it wouldn't cost me a mint in shipping and duties.

NYX Slide On Lip Liner in Nude Suede Shoes
I've had this lip liner in a Favorites post before, but I'm still absolutely loving it and I've been reaching for it constantly this month. The thing I love about this lip liner is that it's really creamy and smooth to apply but once it sets it's not going anywhere. This is another product that I need to get more shades in - especially with fall lips on their way, because those deeper shades need a good liner to keep them looking perfect.

Honorable Lip Mention: Maybelline Color Jolt Intense Lip Paint in Stripped Down.

IT Cosmetics for Ulta Airbrush Concealer & Foundation Brushes
If you saw my Florida haul last month, you'll remember that these IT Cosmetics brushes that my friend got me for my birthday. Since I've had them, I've been reaching for these two brushes pretty much every day, one for the purpose it was intended and the other for something else. The Airbrush Concealer brush is insanely perfect for blending out my undereye concealer without compromising the coverage and really does give me a flawless, airbrushed finish. The Airbrush Foundation brush is actually the brush I've been using to apply powder to set my concealer. Because it's so soft, it doesn't disrupt the concealer and applies powder really evenly and smoothly across the skin. I have also used this for blush, because it makes it really easy to give a soft, diffused flush to the cheeks. Overall, this entire brush set has really impressed me, but these two are the head and shoulders winners.

e.l.f. Beautifully Bare Blending Brush
I swear, I picked this brush up with every intention of using it for foundation, but then I used it once to apply my bronzer and I haven't gone back. The thing that I love about this brush for bronzer is that I can turn it to get a different angle of application of the product. The way I like to use it is to start with it flat to apply the most product where I want it more concentrated, and then turn the brush to blend so that everything gets a little bit more blown out. I don't think this was the intended purpose for this brush, but I absolutely love using it this way. For the price, I don't think e.l.f. brushes can really be beat.

SIBU Sea Berry Therapy Polishing Facial Cleanser (Review)
My skin really, really loves this cleanser, I'm finding. In fact, I think it's getting a little bit dependent on it, because when I use a different cleanser it just doesn't seem to look as good as it does with this one. This is definitely a perfect product for a morning cleanse for me, because it really preps my skin for makeup without being too intense in the whole polishing aspect, and it also has that bright orangey scent that helps to get my going in the morning. I'm still not sure how my skin is going to love it come winter, but for now it's definitely a great match for me.

VICHY Pore Purifying Clay Mask (Review)
Considering the rescue mission this mask pulled with my skin, was there any doubt it was going to get a Favorites mention? I've been using this baby about once a week for the past month and it just keeps doing exactly what I want it to without drying out my skin or doing anything funny. I've been recommending this mask to pretty much everyone recently, and I'm recommending it to you now. If you've got problematic or congested pores, you should absolutely try this!

Like I said, there were SO many great things that I was reaching for this month that the ones that I ended up picking are absolute raves for me. Everything mentioned in this post gets a recommendation from me - as long as it's right for your skin and your needs - and I know all of these products are going to keep being favorites. As most of us makeup junkies know... that's not always the case!

Thanks for reading!
