by - March 14, 2017

Over the past year, I have to say, sunscreen has really become an important part of not only my skin care routine, but also my self care routine. Because I feel like it's such an important step, and one that not only protects your beauty but also your health, I've started to really want to try more of the different SPF formulas on the market and find what's best for me. Recently, I've had the opportunity to try out a couple of different formulas of Cyberderm - The Sunscreen Company Sun Whip, and I wanted to share my review of them with you guys as well as talk a little bit about the importance of protecting your skin from the sun.

Let's Talk About Sun Protection

One of the things that always kept me from prioritizing sun protection was the idea that it was only a problem if I got a sunburn or that I only really had to think about it when I was going to be spending an extended time in the sun. Considering the difference in the depth of the tan on my left arm vs. my right every summer, I feel kind of silly about that. The thing about sun protection is that it should be something you do every day, because sun damage is cumulative. Not only is this important from an anti-aging standpoint, but also from a health standpoint as the most significant cause of melanoma is cumulative sun exposure.

Cyberderm Every Morning Sun Whip SPF 25*
Our most popular formula- a great facial sunscreen with a cashmere matte finish.  Apply it to the face, neck, chest and hands daily! Zinc oxide provides consistent and photo-stable protection against UVB and UVA rays. It’s soothing and calming to the skin, which is why mothers apply zinc oxide to their babies’ bottoms. This 15% zinc oxide and 7.5% encapsulated octinoxate blend applies invisibly and smoothly to the skin. It provides just the right amount of hydration for many but pairs nicely with our H20 Hydration. It is also perfect for those with combination, oily or acneic skin. This is an essential for both young and mature skin and provides essential daily protection.

Of the two products that I got to try, this one is definitely the more appropriate one for every day. The formula itself is lighter, similar to a daily moisturizer, and blends really easily into the skin. For oilier skin types, I actually feel like this could act as both your moisturizer and your SPF, but if you do have drier skin I would definitely pair this with your moisturizer. My favorite thing about this formula is how well it sits underneath makeup. Because the finish is smooth and matte, you don't end up with any greasiness, stickiness or white cast that you have to correct, so your makeup will apply like normal and this won't break it up throughout the day. The only problem with this for me is actually the same problem I have with most physical sunscreens, which is that it did break me out. Honestly, this wasn't surprising because I do almost always break out with sunscreen. For that reason, this is going to be an SPF that I'll reach for to use on my neck, decolletage, hands and arms for every day use.

Cyberderm Simply Zinc Sun Whip SPF 30*
For those looking for a pure, physical sunscreen the Simply Zinc Sun WhipTM will change how you view zinc oxide based sunscreens. Simply Zinc Sun Whip contains 22% certified organic Zinc Oxide in a rich and hydrating olive base. It applies smoothly and invisibly while it absorbs quickly without leaving a shiny finish. It is perfect for those looking for more hydration or for those with sensitive skin. It is also a great facial sunscreen for women with melasma or hyperpigmentation, by providing strong and consistent protection against UVB and UVA rays. The anti-oxidants provided by the olive oil base and the inclusion of tetrapeptides also make this a great anti-aging sunscreen.

The first time I pumped this out onto the back of my hand, I thought for sure it was going to be one of those thick, white zinc oxide sunscreens that would never sink into my skin. I was wrong! Don't get me wrong, this baby is THICK, but it actually blends really well into the skin and gives a slightly luminous look to the skin that I think I'll love for beach days when I want my skin to look healthy without having to wear makeup. I find that this one does take a little bit longer to sink into the skin than the Every Morning Facial Whip, but it does sink into the point that you feel like you've just applied a really hydrating moisturizer.

Overall, what I love about these is that they're modern sunscreen formulas that utilize zinc oxide in their formulas that don't look heavy or leave a white cast on the skin. I love seeing innovative formulas in products like these that rely on science to improve on the old formula, and I think these really do that. Like I said, I did have the issue of breaking out, so I will personally save these for days out in the sun or use them on parts of my body that need every day sun protection, but I think that for people who don't have the same issue I have these will work beautifully.
