REVIEW: Avon Skin So Soft Fresh & Smooth Hair Removal Products
I'm actually really excited for today's review because one of the products in this group is one that I've been using and thinking about reviewing for you guys for a really long time. When it comes to hair removal, I'm only an expert in so far as I'm not a big fan of body hair on myself so I've been consistently removing it through various means for over 20 years now. However, I do know what I like and I really don't tend to stray once I find products in this category that I enjoy. Recently, I was sent three products from the Avon Skin So Soft Fresh & Smooth Hair Removal line to try out. Since I've been literally using one of the products for years, I was really excited to try out the other two!

First off... Anyone else wondering what Meadowfoam is? I was, because it's actually an ingredient I was unfamiliar with, so I did a little bit of research. Meadowfoam Seed Oil is an edible plant oil that is widely used as an emollient and skin softening agent in skin care and cosmetics because it's an incredibly stable ingredient. Meadowfoam Seed Oil helps to build a barrier on the skin to soften the skin and prevent dryness. I suspect that the barrier aspect is why it's included in these hair removal products, as removing hair can often cause dryness. Good to know, right?
Avon Skin So Soft Fresh & Smooth Sensitive Skin Facial Hair Removal Cream*
I hate the downy hairs on my upper lip. I don't personally have a problem with dark, coarse hairs there but I find that the hairs I do have end up getting caked up with makeup and looking pretty horrible, so I prefer to keep that area smooth and this sort of cream has proven to be my favorite way to do that. In fact, this specific cream is the one I've been using for several years now, and when I received this I actually had a tube in use and one on backup at my house. It used to come in different packaging, but if it's been reformulated I honestly can't tell a difference.
The thing I love about this cream is that it's quick and effective but also gentle. While I do find that my skin feels a little bit sensitive for about a day after using this, I don't get any actual discomfort as long as I'm mindful not to leave it on too long. I also don't find that this has the strong, horrible smell that a lot of similar creams have - a serious plus when it's being applied literally under my nose. Of the three products, this is definitely the one that I give my biggest thumbs up to because I've been in love with it for a long time.
Avon Skin So Soft Fresh & Smooth Body Hair Removal Cream*
Because I've loved the Facial Hair Removal Cream for so long, I was really excited to try this one out. I haven't used a body hair removal cream in years because the ones I've tried in the past always smelled truly horrible and I found that they had a tendency to start to feel somewhat burny on my legs. Because I never had either of those issues with the one for my face, I was hoping the same would be true for this one - and it was!
I've only tested this on my legs, but I decided to let my leg hair grow a little more intensely than I normally would to really give this a solid test and it passed with flying colours. I applied a thin layer of this from ankle to knee on my left leg while sitting on the edge of the empty bathtub and set the timer for about 3 minutes. I tested one of the thicker areas at 2½ minutes and found that the hair was wiping away easily, so I went in and removed the product with a warm washcloth. It did a seriously fantastic job and left my legs feeling smooth. I did miss a spot on the back of my leg, so I had to clean up with a razor, but for the most part this was super easy and worked really effectively. Again, my legs did feel a little bit sensitive for about 24 hours, so I would recommend doing this after a bath or shower so that you don't have to shower until the sensitivity fades, but I definitely think this product does exactly what it promises.
Avon Skin So Soft Fresh & Smooth Silky Stay Shave Gel*
When it comes to shave gel, I admit that I'm not picky. As long as the product applies easily and helps to make shaving my legs a quick and painless process, I'm not bothered. That said, one of my biggest pet peeves with a lot of shaving products is that they come in metal containers that end up rusting in the shower if you don't keep them as dry as possible, so I was hopeful that this shave gel in a plastic tube would work well for me.
Because I'm used to using foaming gels, I was a little surprised to find that this isn't a foaming product. It's a rich gel that smooths over the skin without foaming. In testing, I applied this to my right leg the way that I normally would and shaved as usual and I found that this gave me a very easy shave and I didn't have any issue with bumps or sensitivity when I was done. I honestly think this is a really good shave gel and I'll likely continue to buy it in the future - if only because it works well and I won't have to worry about it rusting in my shower.
Like I said, I tested the Body Hair Removal Cream and the Silky Stay Shave Gel on opposite legs because I really wanted to see if there was a difference in how my skin felt between the two products. When I touched my legs, I found the leg with the cream to be ever so slightly softer, but when I got my boyfriend to touch my legs and tell me if he could notice a difference he said that if he had to choose one it would be the one with the gel. Honestly, I really don't think there's any difference between the end result using the two different products. The only real difference was that I didn't have any sensitivity after shaving, while I did have slight sensitivity after using the hair removal cream. Thus far, I've noticed no difference in the way the hair is growing back either, so I think it's really just a matter of preference and that both of these products are really good.
All three of these products get a thumbs up from me, but I really do hold the Facial Hair Removal Cream above all of the others because it has been such a long time favorite of mine!
