REVIEW: L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Liquid Lipstick

by - September 25, 2017

It always surprises me when I find a new release at the drugstore that hasn't really gotten much attention here online that blows my mind. It doesn't happen often - probably because the online beauty community is constantly on the hunt for amazing new releases, but also perhaps because there isn't as much of a PR push for some products as there are for others. After seeing one really, really phenomenal review of the new L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Liquid Lipsticks, I absolutely had to try them. I mean, obviously. Ultimately, I've picked up three and I've definitely got some thoughts on each one of them.

Keep reading for my review!

I think it was last year when some of the bigger drugstore brands released lines of matte lip glosses, which I suppose were gloss formulas that used matte pigments, but those of us who were looking for something long wearing and transfer proof tended to be somewhat disappointed by those formulas. This year, those same brands seem to be coming out with new lines of matte liquid lipsticks that do set and the formulas have consistently been killing it for me. The L'Oreal Pro Matte Liquid Lipstick promises high pigment shades for comfortable, long lasting ultra matte colour with a pro-sculpt applicator. Sounds pretty good, right?

The formula on these liquid lipsticks in absolutely incredible. There are really no two ways about it. First, they have a really nice, light fruity scent that is actually really pleasant. Always a plus, right? They also apply really easily with smooth, even pigmentation in one coat. They set quite quickly, but not so quickly that you don't have time to get a really crisp line on the lips, and once they've set they are transfer proof. I've worn all three of these multiple times and I've gotten a solid 14 hours of wear on my longest day. The biggest plus for me, though, is the comfort. I'm someone who rubs my lips together constantly when I'm wearing a lip product and when I do that with these, it has the most interesting feeling like my lips are really hydrated and almost balmy. If you do wear them for a really long day, you will probably find that when you take it off your lips will need some balm, but I haven't had any issues with really dry lips if I wear these a few days in a row. I swear, this formula is just absolute perfection, in my opinion.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Liquid Lipstick in 360 Angora
The first time I saw this in the store, I didn't pick it up because I had a feeling it would pull too grey. I actually only picked it up after I saw it swatched on a vlogger with a similar skin tone to myself and it looked gorgeous and more pink than grey on her. I definitely think I should have gone with my initial instinct. This photo isn't really showing just how grey the undertones of this lipstick are, but if you scroll down to my lip swatches you can really see it. It's just... not a shade that I can personally get down with and it's completely different on me than it was on her. I have tried mixing this with the shade Plum Bum and it actually makes a really gorgeous shade when used that way, which is good because I don't think I'll be wearing this one on its own - I'm not a huge fan of looking like a corpse.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Liquid Lipstick in 358 Cowboy
This was the first shade I picked up from this line and is still my absolute favorite. In fact, as I write this I'm wearing it on my lips. The only way I feel like I can describe this shade is that it's a combination of a saddle brown and a burnt caramel and it's basically a fall lipstick dream for me. It looks on my lips exactly the way that it looks in the tube, which is also a huge plus. I feel like this could be a good option for someone who wants to dip their tones into these really warm,  burnt types of fall shades this year because it's not too deep and it doesn't have the grey undertone that can make it tricky to find a flattering shade for your skin tone. I think this could work on so many different people. I'm in love. Absolute love.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Liquid Lipstick in 362 Plum Bum
Remember how I said that Cowboy looks exactly the same on my lips as in the tube? That can't be said for Plum Bum, which looks quite different in the tube than it does on my lips. This is another shade that I've actually seen swatches of that looks very, very different from how it pulls on me. Now, don't get me wrong, I actually do really love this shade - it just isn't what I was expecting. I'd say that this is a true plum shade that maintains its deep, berry purple without skewing too dark or too pink. It's another great shade for fall if you're looking for something that is vampy without feeling like it's too deep. I also think this would be a great, very wearable shade on deep skin tones.

At first, I wasn't quite sure how I felt about this V-shaped sponge tip applicator because it's quite a bit softer and more flexible than other similar applicators, but I actually find I really love it now that I've gotten used to it. I think it actually helps application quite a bit to have that softness and flex to the applicator because it helps it to more easily glide over the lips. The point is also really good for getting a crisp line and I don't find myself struggling with having too much product around the outer edge of my lips like I do with some others. Two thumbs up for the applicator.

Angora, Cowboy, Plum Bum

I found this warning on a retailer's website concerning these: "While every effort has been made to ensure accuracy of product colour, some variations in colour may occur." I think that there might be some variation in certain shades between batches. There's obviously also the fact that my undertones and hair colour will effect the way that the shades look and the very, very bright lights that vloggers use, but I think there has to be some variation because I haven't been able to find anyone else's swatches that quite look the way that Angora and Plum Bum look on me. Am I harping on this? Apologies, it's just a little bit of a peeve.

Overall, honestly, even though I went off a little bit about the shades - I'm in love with this formula and have absolutely every intention of picking up at least two more shades from this line because it's just that good. It applies beautifully with full pigment, it wears comfortably absolutely all day through meals and whatever else I put it through, and it drying. I love it. Period. In fact, I think this might currently be my favorite liquid lipstick formula, period.

I definitely recommend these - could you tell? Just be mindful of the shades!
