REVIEW: Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil

by - September 13, 2018

I feel like I might be the last person in the beauty world who hadn't yet tried the Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil... but I've finally gotten around to it. I feel like brow products had quite a moment and so many of them were being released that it was a little bit hard to keep up, especially when Benefit went hard and released a whole new line of products that was definitely a little bit overwhelming to choose from. Still, there's really no excuse, but I did finally get around to trying it out and I'm admittedly... completely obsessed!

About:
Transform shapeless, undefined brows with just a few strokes of Precisely, My Brow Pencil. The custom ultra-fine tip makes adding detailed definition to your brows easy, by drawing incredibly natural-looking, hair-like strokes that last up to 12-hours. This rich, waterproof pencil is ideal for spot filling sparse or over-tweezed areas and the smudge-proof formula is firm enough for precise application yet glides on effortlessly to bring symmetry to your brows and your entire face.

I love a skinny brow pencil. Though I actually do keep some more traditional brow pencils on hand for quick and lazy fills, skinny brow pencils are my personal favorite. And honestly, while the drugstore does have some good options that I like for the price, they still haven't managed to come close to high end brow pencils in my opinion. This one definitely stands among its high end peers - and manages to stand out with unique packaging design.

I just want to get one small design aspect of this pencil that I completely love out of the way before anything else - and trust me, it may seem minuscule but really makes a big difference to me. I love that the caps for the actual pencil end and for the spoolie are so completely different, because it means that I'm not going to put the wrong tip on the wrong end and smash my pencil. Anyone else have this issue? Because these skinny brow pencils really don't have that much actual product, I feel like it just can not be wasted, so when I've accidentally put the shorter lid from the spoolie side onto the pencil side with other pencils, it's been really, really annoying. This pencil has two lids with different shapes which makes it basically impossible, even with my early morning zombie brain, to mix them up and ruin your pencil. Two thumbs up!

The most important thing for me in a brow pencil is definitely the formula and this one is top notch. Personally, I prefer a firmer, drier texture when it comes to brow pencils - particularly the skinny ones - because it allows me to easily create really natural, full looking brows with really delicate strokes. A creamier pencil tends to deposit more product, which can more easily fill the brows but doesn't have the really natural look of something firmer. This one has a very firm texture, but enough pigment that I don't have to press too hard to deposit the product. Soft strokes of the pencil create a really soft, beautiful line.

I have shade 04 here, which I actually thought might be too dark for my preferences since I do tend to like my brows to be lighter than my hair so that they don't look too stark, but I actually really like it. It is a deep brown, but it has a very neutral tone that doesn't skew too ashy for me. I find that if I want to really add some dimension and fullness, I like to pair this with the Benefit Gimme Brow in Shade 02, which is much lighter and helps to give a really natural look.

I'm not much of a selfie kind of a girl these days, but the first time I tried out this pencil I was headed out to see a friend's art show and I loved the makeup - specifically the brows - so much that I felt inclined to snap a pic. I love how naturally full they look!  These brows were created using just the Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil in 04 and the Benefit Gimme Brow in 02!

I don't think you could have possibly made it to the end of this review without being 100% completely clear on the fact that I'm in love with this brow pencil. Ever since that first time I tried it, I haven't wanted to reach for anything else and I've basically been in love with my brows every single day since then. This is definitely the type of product that can feel like it might not be worth the high end price tag because they tend to go so quickly... but this pencil is really, really worth it!
