MANI MONDAY: Sheer Nude & Olive Plaid Nails
Hey guys! For the final Monday in January and the last week of our #CBBxManiMonday Nails We Wouldn't Normally Do, I have to admit that I cheated a little - but I have a good reason. I feel like sometimes the easiest way to step outside of your comfort zone with beauty is to do so while including elements that are really comfortable for you, and that's exactly what I did with this mani. Sheer bases are definitely not something that I normally do because I never feel like it looks good when I can see my nail line and normally I would build up a more sheer base to opacity to cover that, but I decided to push through that and pair a really nude toned beige holographic base with some olive plaid stamping... because if there are two things I love on my nails, they're green polishes and plaid stamping!
For a closer look and to see how I got this mani, keep reading!
For the sheer base on this look, I reached for the fairly-new-to-my-collection ILNP Birthday Suit, which is a sheer beige nude polish with scattered holo. I applied two thin coats of this and I actually really, really loved how it looked just on its own. It evened out the nails and gave a smooth finish once it dried. If you like to keep your nails nude and just basically have something to even them out, sort of like a light coverage foundation, this is a phenomenal polish for that.
For the stamping, I reached for Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in No S-Pear Time, which is a shimmery golden olive metallic. This polish was limited edition years ago now, but if you're looking for mainstream polishes for stamping, I would highly recommend trying out the Insta-Dri line, particularly the metallic shades, because they work really, really well. I used my much beloved Harunouta L010 Stamping Plate for this look, but chose a different image than I normally use because I wanted finer lines to really let that sheer base show through.
I finished with a coat of Essence The Gel Polish Top Coat - seriously, such an affordable top coat that dries super fast and doesn't smudge my stamping - and voila!

This is a super simple mani - partially because I was in the mood for something low key after having worn this rather bold jewel toned mani before this and partially as a matter of not having a ton of time - but I love how it turned out and I feel like I'll be more confident in the future using sheer bases in nail art looks!
Thanks for reading!
