MANI MONDAY: Pink Smoosh Mani w. Geometric Stamping

by - February 04, 2019

Hey guys! Now that the #CBBxManiMonday January theme of nails we don't normally do is over, I went straight back to some favorite techniques for this week's theme of Pink & Red. As much as I loved branching out, I love going to the techniques and styles that fall more in line with what I love and I'm super happy with this week's mani. I love a smoosh, which I feel is honestly really, really easy to do as long as you have a couple of things to help you along the way, and adding the stamping over the top really helps to pop the base.

For a closer look and to find out how I got this look, keep reading!

When doing a smoosh, I generally choose one of the colours I'm going to be smooshing as my base. For this mani, I started with one coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Buff And Tumble. Personally, I tend not to love a white base, so I felt like this slightly pinky nude would do a better job for getting me the look I wanted and also make clean up a little bit more seamless.

For the smoosh, I went with four colours because I feel like 3-4 shades is sort of the sweet spot for a smoosh to get a good colour variation without things getting muddy. I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Polishes in White On Time, Buff And Tumble, and Just In Wine, as well as Ceramic Glaze Shell Me About It. I applied all four polishes onto a large stamper head, spreading them out and being a little bit more conservative with the amount of the deeper shades that I added. Next, with a layer of liquid latex around my cuticles (seriously, don't skip this step with a smoosh because clean up can get pretty dicey) I just sort of pounce the stamper onto my nails until I get the blend and look I want for the smoosh. Generally I go in with a clean up brush dipped in acetone and sort of scoop out the polish that has pooled around the cuticles before I remove the liquid latex and then do more careful clean up afterwards.

For the stamping, I decided I wanted to go with white because it would fit in with the base but still have enough contrast to really pop the overall look. I also really wanted to use a simple geometric image that would fill the whole nail, so I reached for the UR Sugar UR-L001 Stamping Plate and used BornPrettyStore White Stamping Polish. I finished with a coat of Essence The Gel Polish Top Coat and voila!

I suspect that I'm going to be doing a lot of different smoosh mani's coming up... mostly because I've been playing with pop sticks and different variations of smoosh looks and I'm really kind of overly stoked to put them on my nails.
