REVIEW: L'Oreal Infallible Full Wear Concealer

by - February 13, 2019

As someone who tests a lot of makeup products I'm generally not a fan of first impression style reviews, particularly of complexion products, because there are so many products that I've really had to play with different ways to get a real feel for how they work. I feel like, as a reviewer, it's really important for me to get a full picture of what's going on with a product before I put my thoughts out there. One product that has really underscored for me why this testing product is important is the L'Oreal Infallible Full Wear More Than Concealer, because the testing process has been a little bit of a roller coaster and I know that my first impression definitely wouldn't have told the whole story or been particularly helpful.

About:
Experience more than a traditional concealer. Infallible Full Wear Concealer is our most pigmented and full coverage concealer with an extra large applicator to provide maximum coverage in just one stroke. Our waterproof, non-greasy formula won’t transfer, fade, or flake and dries down to a thin, natural finish that lasts up to 24 hours. The extra-large doe-foot applicator and elastic texture allows for an easy application and extra playtime. Use under the eyes or for the full face to cover imperfections, redness, and scars. Available in 24 shades.

When it comes to undereye concealer, I'm actually pretty often let down because I want a concealer to strike the perfect balance between being high coverage and having a really natural looking texture. I was really, really excited to try out this concealer because I heard it touted as a Tarte Shape Tape dupe and since that particular cult sensation is a bit of a pain in the ass to get in Canada, I was hopeful that this would be a winner for me. I have to say... the first time I tried this concealer, I hated it, and the second time I tried it I hated it even more. I have, however, continued to play with it and found that if used correctly, I can get the look that I want using this product.

When they say Full Coverage, they really mean full coverage with this concealer. It's absolutely packed with pigment and there's really no denying that it has the ability to cover pretty much anything. I feel like, as often happens with very high coverage products, the texture can definitely be an issue with this one and the first couple of times I tried it, it ended up looking incredibly cakey and dry on my undereyes fairly quickly. It settled into my fine lines and ended up aging me quite a bit. Honestly, I really initially thought that I hated this concealer and kind of regretted picking it up, but I kept trying different ways of using it and ultimately ended up finding a way that worked for me.

There's two answers, for me, on how to make this concealer work and look great. The first is to prep the undereyes well with eye cream, not to overload the skin or anything but to really make sure that area is well hydrated before application. The second is to be very, very careful that a little bit goes a long way with this concealer. For my undereyes, I use one dot towards the inner part of the undereye and one towards the outer part and that's it. I find that it blends best with a blending sponge when you really press the product into the skin. Ultimately this means that the coverage ends up being a little bit less full, but for me it's worth it to have the texture look good.

I also tried this all over my face to test the claim that it works well used that way and I immediately took it off because it was just too cakey and I knew I wasn't going to make it work for me. This will definitely stay in the concealer drawer and I won't personally try to use it as foundation again.

Honestly, even though I've managed to make this work, I feel like this isn't something that I'll purchase again because there are other affordable concealers that are easier to work with and give me a similar look on the eyes with a little less struggle. Still, I suspect that this is a concealer that people who already love Shape Tape will be really excited about because, from what I understand, the formula is very, very similar at the end of the day.

L'Oreal Infallible Full Wear More Than Concealer is widely available now and retails for around $15CAD.
